My Hypothesis Letter
What I could do to find my answers are asking seismologists how they record earthquakes and if they can pinpoint the exact place it was coming from and how they can tell how big the earthquake was. Maybe I could ask random people if they have ever been in an earthquake and how they felt when the earthquake happened. Maybe if I could video call someone from christchurch or maybe visit somewhere that has an exhibit that shows you what and earthquake feels like or maybe it shows what to do in a earthquake. Maybe I could video chat or email one of my old teachers that moved to christchurch to help with what happened there or maybe I could get to visit someone in christchurch and ask them some questions about the earthquake. I could also ask my aunt that lives in australia to visit adelaide and interview the people that were part of the wildfire that occurred recently.
The point of my question and the reason why it’s important is because if my family wasn’t here anymore with me, who would look after me? where would I live?If I found out what to get if a fire, flood, tsunami or earthquake happened then my family could be safe from natural disasters but I could go out and talk to some scientists that study earthquakes.
I will research this question by asking some seismologists how they record and find out when an earthquake will happen and if they know where it will happen. A challenge I might face is trying to get my extended family to be prepared for natural disasters and what to do if a natural disaster happened to them. The point of my question really bases around my family and mainly how to prepare for natural disasters and how natural disasters will affect our daily lives. If a natural disaster happened then would it affect our school and grades? maybe the school has been damaged and we wouldn’t be able to come to school till the school gets repaired and maybe without the school, our grades might go down.
Some challenges I might come across is I might not find some people that have been in a actual earthquake before and that might be a challenge which can stump me and my work. If I could actually who had been in an earthquake and asked them what it was like to be in earthquake then I would get the answer and then ask questions like what it looked like after the earthquake and all the aftershocks happened. Maybe I could also ask her how it felt to have been through an earthquake and survived and if after the earthquake, she wanted to be prepared for an earthquake and if she thought she could survive another one.
If I could have survived a natural disaster with my family then my family would know what it feels like to be in a natural disaster and maybe they would take natural disasters more seriously and maybe we could be even more prepared for the next time it happens. If an earthquake happened we would have to run under table and get in be tween door frames, if a fire happened we would to stop and crawl outside using our fire plan, if a flood happened would we be safe in our house? would we be able to get out before the flood gets into our house? If a tsunami happened would we be able to get to high ground before it reaches us?.
What were the worst natural disasters of all time? were they the big 4? (Tsunami/Wildfire/Earthquake/Flood) or were they the other smaller ones? (twister/tornado/water cyclone)? if they were than what percentage of all of the natural disasters have of happening in NZ? Is there a way to calculate how big a natural disaster will be and how to calculate it before it happens? Is there a way to see what the best things are to hide under and survive an earthquake underneath? What percentage does NZ have of getting natural disasters than other countries? is it possible to see how many times will NZ be hit by natural disasters? If so how would we do it? These questions and more are lying under the rug and are waiting for me to research about these questions. What country has had the most natural disasters and which country has had the most? these questions are all about the natural disaster sides but what about how it will affect our daily lives?
If a wildfire had quickly spread to all the classrooms in school and destroyed everything inside them, how long would we have to wait for our school to rebuild and would we have to switch schools and if so, what school would we all switch to and what percentage of the people went roskill and other schools and how long would it take for the school to be rebuilt? If I was just a normal person in a natural disaster, how would it affect me or my family, would all of my family be alright? would I be alive?
My name is David Pulotu and this is my hypothesis letter.
