Cozad High School 2017-18

Student Device Program

Each year, Cozad High School faculty, administration and technology staff evaluate the student device program with the goal of providing the best educational experience possible to our students.  We also strive to keep things as simple, efficient and cost-effective as possible for our parents and our patrons.

Beginning with the freshman class of 2021, CHS will begin the transition to a new type of student device called a Chromebook.  Chromebooks are similar to laptop computers, but are less expensive, easier to maintain and operate, and provide significantly longer battery life.  While the iPad will continue to be a great choice, we believe that the Chromebook is an excellent device in meeting the academic needs of high school students.

At the start of school in August, all students will be issued Chromebooks as their student device for the 2017-18 school year.  With parent permission and for a $10 maintenance fee, the student may elect to take the device home outside of the school day.  We will continue to provide students with one free repair per year, with subsequent repairs to be covered by the student.  Fortunately, repair costs are less expensive with Chromebooks (typically around $25).  The school will retain ownership and no lease option for Chromebooks will be provided.

Students who will be in grades 10, 11 and 12 for the 2017-18 school year will have the option of continuing with their current device plan as well, but a Chromebook will be available for each student.  Students currently leasing iPads from the school may elect to continue the same lease arrangement with the option to purchase.

All current 9-11 students who wish to participate in the new Chromebook plan MUST complete a letter of intent and submit it to the CHS office by Friday, May 12.  If you do not submit a letter of intent by this date, we will assume that you wish to continue with your current plan.  Note that even if you continue with your current plan, ALL CHS students will have a Chromebook device available for them for the 2017-18 school year.

Below is a summary of the options available to students in each situation:
