Municipal IT Structures

This document tracks how local governments structure their IT leadership and what titles they give their IT leaders. CDO can stand for Chief Data Officer or Chief Digital Officer, CIO can stand for Chief Information Officer or Chief Innovation Officer, and CTO stands for Chief Technology Officer. Some cities also have directors or councils overseeing their IT departments.

The initial list of cities to be researched was compiled by looking at cities listed as Public Technology Institute Member Jurisdictions and cities with open data initiatives or other open government initiatives listed in the Code for America commons.

This is by no means a complete list of cities that have CDOs, CIOs, CTOs, or other IT structures mentioned on their websites. Please feel free to edit for accuracy and clarity as well as add to this list.
