College of Science Scholarships Deadline Today: Applications are now being accepted for 2017-2018 scholarships sponsored by the College of Science. Full information can be found here and a flyer is attached. The deadline to apply is 4:00pm, Today, Friday, January 27.
Remember, as a Geosciences major, you are eligible to apply for three levels of scholarships (University, College of Science, and Department of Geosciences). All scholarships require students to have applied for university financial aid (online application is now open). Information about scholarships sponsored by the Department of Geosciences will be posted in February, including in this newsletter.
Weber Science Day: Are you considering a science major? Check out the Weber Science Day, where you can explore your options in science and math If you are already a science major, you may still find the information and activities interesting. The event will take place on Saturday, January 28, 8:30am-12:00pm in Student Union Ballroom A Please see the attached flyer for more information.
University GIS Position Open: Facilities Management is looking to fill an hourly GIS Technician position. Please visit https://jobs.weber.edu/ and search for requisition number, "10605" or job title, "Hourly GIS Technician."
Oil & Gas Internships: Crescent Point Energy is looking to fill a number of geoscience and GIS-related internships in their Denver office for summer 2017. Position announcement for 3 internships (Petroleum Geology, Environmental Science, GIS/Land Leasing) are attached. A recruiter from Crescent Point, who happens to be an alumnus of the WSU Geeosciences Department, will be meeting students during the University of Utah's STEM Career Fair on February 7, 2017 (http://careers.utah.edu/connect-employers/fairs/ ). If you are interested in applying for one of these internships, you should contact Dr. Ford and plan on attending the STEM Career Fair at the U.
Call for Student Presenters: The Intermountain Section of the Association of Engineering Geologists is looking for students to present their research at their annual Student Night. The event will take place down in SLC on February 16, 2017, with dinner and a social hour starting at 5:30 and presentations at 6:30. Geoscience Movie Nights!: Come hang out with your classmates and professors while enjoying some delightfully bad blockbuster disaster movies. Showing the last Monday of each month during Spring Semester, 6-8pm in TY102. Flyers are attached.
Career and Internship Fair: Career Services is hosting the annual Career and Internship Fair on Wednesday, February 1, from 9am-2pm in the Shepherd Union Building Ballrooms. There will be 100+ employers hiring WSU students and grads for careers & internships. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Air Pollution and Health: Dr. C Arden Pope, Mary Lou Fulton Professor of Economics at BYU, will present, "Air Pollution and Health: Science, Policy and Controversy," on Tuesday, January 31, in the Wildcat Theater at 12pm.
