Assemble yourself, Ikea spell their name wrong on purpose to match the motto “assemble yourself”. Unscrambling the word to IKEA from EIKA, also meaning that those furniture that they sell are easily customizable and will easily achieve the way their buyers wanted their furnitures to be. They are biased that their own products are more convenient than all others. Could be true for some people. However, their bias is basically this whole ads’ concept and what they want to promote as a business owner.

Mountain Dew Commercial

Commercial and Notes - http://turbonote.co/share?id=58869d3fddafcf120022e145

0:01 The first episode of this racist banned commercial was this angry goat addicted to mountain dew, which he fought a waitress for more mountain dew.

0:12 puts the goat in line a few black men. Which created the stereotypes against black men. First one saying, black men are harmfull, will always get in prison.

0:13 Second, the goat kind of has a body of dark hair, so they're saying those white guys won't tell a difference between the black human and the goat

The seller, wants people to believe that people will be addicted to mountain dew because it’s so good. People will even fight for more and get into prison for more. It’s like drugs, once your addicted, you can’t stop, and you are going to prison. Although this commercial did not only hurt themselves as a company. They hurt black men around the world. They made this stereotypes saying that all black men should be harmfull and will be in prison, as well as, the goat has a dark coloured skin and hair, they’re saying all black men are the same, so the woman should not be able to recognize the difference between the black humans and the goat.

0:7 Los Angeles has too many homeless

1:20 Most homeless have messy hair and clothes, that’s why they couldn’t find a job.

1:44 This video has a stereotypes of most homeless are black men or women

2:08 So far, the video showed more black men that are homeless

Changing people's look can change their life is what this is stating ?

This music video explains how he helped some homeless to get a fresh look and to start fresh. This could be giving a message to people, homeless gets judged on their looks, people gets judged by their looks. This could be true, to me this is definitely true, most people judge others on their outfits or looks. This video shows most homeless are black men and women, and had a black men holding a sign saying there are 45,000 homeless in Los Angeles.
Before this unit, I don’t think I will observe videos and songs this way, I would think that this guy is so nice and he is setting up fairs to help out some of the homeless. But trying to identify some bias and stereotypes, there are quite a few. The commercial I did on the racist mountain dew commercial. I realised that some commercial and some music videos, or just videos, they use the same type of bias, for example, people’s skin colour, which is judging others on their look.

Spongebob Squarepants, Season 2, episode 11B, Squirrel Jokes

Notes

Spongebob Squarepants, Season 2, episode 11B, Squirrel Jokes

2:21 Squirrel Jokes, one of his friend is a squirrel though. It's also making fun about land animals.

3:48 His friend is hurt

4:32 Now his friend is getting hurt everywhere
5:43 Everyone is making fun of her

7:56 Now he makes more jokes and targets his friend. Points her out.

8:44 Now his friend actually acts like a stupid.

9:41 Sea creatures vs land creatures stereotypes

10:51 Now he makes jokes of himself to save his friend

11:11 Now he makes jokes that doesn't harm anyone

Spongebob ran out of jokes and suddenly saw his friend Sandy, a squirrel. He started making this joke that is a strong stereotypes and bias. He said how squirrels are stupid and land creatures are idiotic as well. Another night he still uses those jokes but he points her friend sandy out.  Now he hurts his friend Sandy even more, and people started making fun of her wherever she goes. For example, she goes to the supermarket, people sees her and says don’t get too close, you will become stupid just like her. This explains how people’s opinions can hurt others and how different people have different opinions. Before this unit/lesson, I watched this show a million times and did not think one point about this bias and stereotypes jokes. Now I understand how harmful it could be sometimes.
