Employees are expected to give the Library at least two (2) weeks notice of intended resignation.  Any employee who resigns shall be paid all wages due him, plus accrued and unused earned vacation time, no later than the next scheduled payday.

Termination pay will include all pay for time worked up to the time of termination and accumulated earned vacation up to the maximum.  Where termination is for non-disciplinary reasons, and if practical, the employee will be given advance notice to allow a reasonable amount of time to secure other employment.  In all instances, two (2) weeks prior notice will be considered reasonable.

Retirement

The State of Mississippi strongly encourages employees to contact the PERS office and their employer at least 90 days in advance of any retirement date in order to prevent gaps in coverage of insurance and other benefits.

Exit Interview

In the belief that employees who leave the Library can contribute ideas toward making the Library a better place to work, exit interviews may be scheduled at the time of separation, to be held with the Director.  Employees are assured that information given in an exit interview will be held in the strictest confidence by the Library; therefore, those terminated are urged to present their ideas or criticisms with the utmost candor.

Leave

Effective 09/27/2007, upon the termination of employment, an employee may elect to have his/her accumulated sick leave, including sick leave accumulated beyond the yearly capped amount, applied towards the employee’s retirement.  The request for such an application of benefits must be submitted in writing to the director within one week of the termination of employment.   Application towards retirement benefits will follow the rules of the retirement system as they exist at the time of termination of employment. Upon retirement or termination of employment, unused sick leave may be used for additional service credit in state retirement, up to 30 days.  The employee will not be paid for such unused sick leave.

Upon the termination of employment, an employee may elect to have all or part of his/her accumulated vacation leave applied towards his/her retirement account.  The request for such an application of benefits must be submitted in writing to the Director within 7 calendar days or prior to the next scheduled paycheck, whichever is earlier.  Failure to provide such notification will result in vacation leave being paid on the next scheduled pay cycle.

All accumulated sick leave will automatically be applied towards the employee’s retirement account.  Employees are not paid for accumulate sick leave upon their resignation/termination.
