Kindergarten Registration 2017-18
Registration for Kindergarten 2017-2018 is open. We look forward to meeting our new students. Please come by and fill out a registration form and have a tour of the school. Parents should bring their child’s proof of age and citizenship (ie birth certificate, passport, immigration documentation), care card and immunization records. You can find a registration form and other pertinent information online at here.
CROSS BOUNDARY TRANSFER REQUESTS: Parents of students who live outside of the Fulford catchment area are required to complete the cross boundary form annually. Forms were sent home with out-of-catchment students this week and can also be found here. Please complete and return it to the office before March 15.
Both of our basketball teams are hosting games against SSE next week. The girls are playing on Monday at lunchtime while the boys will play on Wednesday. Parents are welcome to come to cheer on the teams. The girls’ team will be traveling to Fernwood for a game on Monday, March 11, and will require volunteer drivers. Please make sure you have your volunteer driver form on file at school and that you have completed your criminal record check. See information on both processes below.
Pink Shirt Day
Most of our students participated in Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday but wearing something pink. We also had a friendship/anti-bullying-themed Read-In to mark Pink Shirt Day. Please check out the photos on the school website: Pink Shirt Day.
The minutes to last week’s PAC meeting can be found here. The next PAC meeting will be on Wednesday, March 8 at 8:30 am.
Testing for Lead Content in Drinking Water
In accordance with Ministry of Education policy for testing “Lead Content in Drinking Water of School Facilities” (September 26, 2016), district staff has completed a thorough and intensive series of tests for all building areas in the Fulford Community Elementary School.
Results from the tests for all classrooms and associated areas are satisfactory and within the guidelines of the “Drinking Water Protection Act”.
One part of the original school building (gymnasium bathrooms and adjacent areas that are seldom used) did result in higher than the acceptable levels and immediate measures were taken (drinking fountain turned off, filter installed to cold water supply). It appears that the higher concentration of lead in this area is attributable to the limited usage and flow of water and further remedial action will be taken to completely bypass/remove the existing cold water pipes in this specific building area.
Regular sampling of water and further remedial action will be taken to completely bypass or remove older existing cold water pipes.
For more information about lead in drinking water, see this link.
“How To” - Volunteer Criminal Records Checks
School District 64 has enrolled with the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP) Applicant Based Online Service. Volunteers can complete their own criminal record request and results will be forwarded to the school board office. The checks are valid for 5 years and there is no charge to the applicant. If you think that you might have a valid Criminal Record Check, we can look into this for you - just ask!
To use the EVI (electronic identification verification):
If you are not eligible to use the EIV process to submit a criminal record check request, please contact Glynis Finer at the School Board Office firstname.lastname@example.org or 250-537-5548 ext. 211.
Please do not go to the police station to obtain a Criminal Record Check. They are only good for 3 months and we do not put parent names into our volunteer database based on these CRCs. We only accept the CRCs from the police station as an emergency/temporary CRC when it is too close to a field trip date to complete the other process.
“How To” - Volunteer Driver
The volunteer driver form can be printed off here: Volunteer Driver Form or can be picked up in the office. To obtain your driver's abstract, call ICBC at 1-800-663-3051 (M-F, 8 am-7 pm) and have it emailed or faxed to you, and then forward a copy to the school.
