Shore Radio Protocol

 

Shore radio duty starts at 8:30 on race days.

 

The shore radio can be found in the radio bag in the Windlass storage room ( in the pocket that says Shore Radio)

 

Turn the radio on and the volume up

 

Channel 71 on the VHF radio is used on all race days

 

To operate the radio press the side button to speak wait 1 second or two before speaking and release to hear . ( the first words can be lost if speaking starts immediately )

 

 Radio checks should be done before the safety boat leaves the marina

 

The protocol  to hail the Safety Boat and / or Signal Boat  ( RC boat )

 

When the sailboats are leaving shore you may be called by Signal Boat and asked how many sailors will be racing in that fleet .

 

If you have delays on shore notify the Signal Boat  of the issue.

 

Please notify the Signal Boat of any  sailboat that has returned to shore before the races are completed .

 

The safety boat should notify the shore radio person if they are towing a sailboat back to shore .

 

NEVER leave your radio unattended and never turn it off until the safety boat has returned to shore.

 

When you have finished shore radio duty for the day please turn the radio off and return it to the Shore Radio pocket of the  radio bag.
