Introduction of RAs and RCs and Their Roles
- RAs and RCs were introduced to the residents. Each RA and RC provided their contact information, including duty phone numbers.
- RAs support residents, enforce rules, and provide guidance. They are on duty during specific hours and days and can be contacted via the duty phone for emergencies or assistance.
- If you do not have the duty phone number, please ask your RA/RC!
- Duty Hours: RAs are on duty during the evening (5 PM) and overnight (until 9 AM the following morning). We conduct rounds during these hours to ensure safety and adherence to rules.
- Before these hours, you should contact Housing instead @ +1 (709) 864-7590 (Jump Here for More Info)
- Campus Enforcement: +1 (709) 864-4100 & Blackall Duty Phone: +1 (709) 699-7566
Overview of Rules & Regulations
- Quiet Hours: when loud noise warrants a warning
- FLOOR 4: 24/7 QUIET ZONE – no set hours
- FLOORS 1-3: Quiet hours begin 8 PM-8 AM on Weekdays
- On Weekends (Fri-Sat) quiet hours begin at 1 AM and until 10 AM
- Alcohol Policy: Beer bottles are not allowed due to safety concerns, but cans are permitted. Residents are reminded that open containers of any drink are not allowed in common areas unless covered. Drinking games and "alcohol trophies" (e.g., collected cans for display) are prohibited.
- Residents and guests are not permitted to consume alcohol in public spaces
- Residents cannot store more than 12 units of alcohol in their room (i.e., no more than twelve 355mL cans of drinks, one 375mL containers of liquor, or two 750mL bottles of wine).
- Smoking Policy: No smoking is allowed inside or near 10m of the residences (this includes but is not limited to vaping, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, bongs, etc). MUN is a smoke-free campus and students are expected to respect that.
- Fire Safety: Residents cannot prop open their doors, abstract any area deemed a fire escape route, or tamper with any fire safety equipment. This includes (but is not limited to) covering smoke detectors, sprinkler heads, fire extinguishers, etc.
- Student ID Cards: When requested by RAs or other university staff, residents must provide their student ID cards. Do NOT give your keys/card to anyone that isn’t you. You cannot give your guest access to the housing facilities for safety purposes. You can get sanctioned for this, it is a serious offence as you are endangering your fellow residents.
- Guest Policy: Guests must always be accompanied and escorted by their host. Hosts are responsible for their guests and must not leave them unattended.
- Residents must obtain prior approval (24 hours in advance) from their roommate(s) and your Residence Coordinator (Nazrin) before a guest stays overnight. Your guests cannot stay more than three (3) consecutive nights.
- Lockouts: If you lock yourself out of your room, you can call the duty phone for assistance. While multiple lockouts are understandable during the first week, repeated incidents any more than 3 occurrences afterward will result in a write-up.
- Furniture: Residents are not permitted to move university-owned furniture into their rooms which didn’t come with the room itself.
- Occupancy Limits: No more than 12 people are allowed in a room at one time to ensure safety and compliance with fire codes.
- Open Flames: Candles and any other open flames (incense) are strictly prohibited in the residence. If you own any appliance that generates heat (kettle), please use them in the kitchen.
- Cannabis: Cannabis must be tightly sealed, and residents are allowed no more than 30 grams in their possession. Residents cannot consume cannabis in public areas or make their edibles in residence
- Recycling: Residents and guests must use the proper recycling containers to dispose of garbage. They are located on the upper floors.
