Dear SVA Math Students and Families, It’s summertime...woohoo! I know how much we love to kick back and relax for 10 weeks. But…
The good news is that we can stop the socalled “summer slide”. How do we do this? It’s simple – we provide an opportunity for students to practice their math skills during the summer months. All incoming students are expected to complete Summer Coursework that corresponds to the class they are entering in fall of 2017. Solutions to each packet have been provided as well. Please choose the files which correspond to the course you will be entering this fall. Your goal is not to complete “busy work” or to memorize processes, but to truly understand and be able to apply the concepts. Your ability to do this will be assessed within the first 12 weeks of school and will be your first test score in the gradebook. If you get stuck and are unsure about an answer/solution, you should “google” some help. A quick YouTube search of “solving absolute value inequalities” or “how to use pointslope form” will return a number of instructional videos (we’d recommend Khan Academy or PatrickJMT). We are so excited for the 20172018 school year and we know that summer coursework will help students to dive right in! Please direct questions regarding summer coursework to Tifiny Howard at thoward@svak12.org Sincerely, SVA Math Department
