Circle Graphs From Skittles Activity

Materials

Lesson

Students will first work individually to tally their results of each color in their Skittles packs. Then in pairs, students will combine their information. (Or can be done individually). Students will record on their paper listing their colors underneath.

Students will then calculate the number of each color they have out of the total amount to find the fraction, decimal, and percent of the circle each student will need. Have students use their compasses to create a circle on a piece of paper. Have then multiply each decimal number on their chart by 360 degrees (to find the degree measurements). Have students list these degree measurements in their tables.

Then have students use their protractors to measure individual degree measurements for the circle graphs. When students have successfully divided up the sectors, have students color and label their graphs.
