How It Works

  • The default lending period is 21 days.
  • After the lending period, the eBook will simply expire from your device.
  • No fines, no fees.
  • If an eBook is checked out, you may request to be placed in the holds queue (see “Placing Holds”).
  • 10 OverDrive checkouts / 10 OverDrive holds (includes both eBooks and audiobooks).

You Will Need

Check Out & Download Using Browser

  1. Log into your Amazon account.
  2. Connect to a Wi-Fi network on your Kindle.
  3. Using your device’s browser, navigate to the library’s OverDrive collection and sign in with your library card number and PIN.
  4. Select an eBook (using either the Browse or Search feature).
  5. Select Borrow or Place Hold (see “Placing Holds”).
  6. In the Download pull-down menu, select the Kindle Book format, then Confirm & Download.
  7. You will be directed to the Amazon site.

Download & Read

  1. Once in the Amazon site, select Get Library Book. (See Kindle USB instructions if the book is USB only.)
  2. Choose your Kindle in the Deliver To pull-down menu then choose Continue.
  3. Your eBook is now in your Kindle library. (If you do not see your eBook, check your WiFi connection and choose Sync & Check for New Items in your Kindle’s Home menu screen.)

Placing Holds

  1. Click Place a Hold.
  2. You will receive an email from donotereply@overdrive.com when your eBook is available.
  3. You will then have three days to check out or borrow the eBook.
  4. Follow the link from your email to get to your Holds list.
  5. Click the Borrow button to check out the eBook.

You Will Need

Allow Third Party Apps

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see Quick Settings.
  2. Select More, then scroll to find Device.
  3. Next, select ON for the option to Allow Installation of Applications for Unknown Sources.
  4. Remember to set this option back to OFF after downloading the Blio app.

Setup

  1. Launch your device’s browser and enter this URL: http://bits.BLioreader.com/update.
  2. Select the link “KNFB Blio 2.5.1PROD.apk.”
  3. Touch the resulting number in the upper-left to initiate the download.
  4.  Select “KNFB BLIO 2.5.1 PROD apk Download Complete” when the download is complete, then tap Install.
  5. Tap Done, then tap Home to return to the Home screen.
  6. The Blio app will now be available in your Kindle’s home carousel.
  7. Launch your browser and create a Blio account.
  8. Register for an Axis 360 account by entering your library card and PIN.
  9. Open the Blio app and select Log In, using the information created above (Step 7).

Check Out Using Browser

  1. Return to the device’s browser to view the library’s Axis 360 collection. 
  2. Tap Login (upper-right).
  3. Enter your library card ID and PIN.
  4. Select a Blio eBook (using either the Browse or Search feature).
  5. To check out the book, select Checkout Now (ensure that the Blio format is highlighted blue). You may also reserve the book by tapping, Place on Hold (see “Placing Holds”).
  6. Enter login information (email and password) created above in “Setup” (Step 2).
  7. Checkout is successful if you see a due date below the book cover.
  8. Your may begin reading your book in your Kindle library.

Placing Holds AXIS

  1. Tap Place on Hold.
  2. You will receive an email when your eBook is available. You have 72 hours, once you receive the email, to check out your holds item.
  3. Go to the link provided in the email and proceed to checkout the item.

  • A valid Santa Clara County Library District card and PIN.

Checkout & Send Book to Kindle Using Your Computer

  1. On your computer, launch your browser and visit our OverDrive collection.
  2. Sign in with your library card number and PIN (upper-right).
  3. Select a book (using either the Browse or Search feature).
  4. Select Borrow or Place Hold (see “Placing Holds”).
  5. Select Download (Kindle Book format), then Confirm and Download.
  6. You will be directed to the Amazon site. Your book is now checked out.
  7. Select Get Library Book. If the Kindle book reads, USB Only, see Amazon’s instructions for transferring the Kindle Book via USB.
  8. Choose your Kindle in the Deliver To pull-down menu then choose Continue.
  9. Your eBook is now in your Kindle library. If you do not see your eBook, check your WiFi connection and choose Sync & Check for New Items using your Kindle’s Home menu screen.
