How to handle SotM? --> Henk has entered the key pre-expenditures. I.e. these need to be paid out before any income comes in. This also prompted a general discussion on whether the current budget is too focused on expenditure and how to bring money raising and cash flow to the fore.

Why should a company want to join OSMF?

How to we go about this?  --> specific action items?

Mike had lunch with a marketing manager who noted the following: Marketing spend on advertising (which is one but not the only way of looking at why companies should join) generally assesses 3 things:

  1. How many people are reached?
  2. Frequency. I.e. an ad in a paper might be seen once, an ad on a bus stop many times by the same person and hence reinforced.
  3. Who? What type of people are being reached ... this may be an important factor for us.

He also suggested that SOTM is very important asset as it allows companies to network.  And yes a full page add in a national trade journal costs in Sweden about SEK 50,000 at full list price which is about GBP 5,000.

Some ideas: What are our assets? What public exposure can we give companies?  ... and what would be the community backlash?!  Why would companies want exposure ... to sell something?, recruit people?, keep their own staff happy by contributing to something useful?
