Columbian Exchange Google Map Project

I can describe interactions as well as consequences of those interactions, amongst indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans during the time period of colonization and settlement. (1585-1763)

Essential question: What were positive and negative impacts of interactions of people from different parts of the world during this time of colonization and settlement?

Activity: Create a Google Map including trades and interactions during the Columbian Exchange and how it affected each of the groups.

Steps to create a Google Map:

  1. Log into your Google account.
  2. Go to https://maps.google.com/
  3. Click on “My Places” and then “Maps”.
  4. Click “Create Map”.
  5. Use the “Marker” and “Line” buttons to add items to your map.
  6. For each item include a Title, Description and Image (see directions for adding an image).
  7. The description should include:
  1. Describe the event that took place.
  2. Tell how it affected each group involved.
  3. What do you think the group(s) involved thought about what was going on at this point?

Adding an image to your Google Map:

  1. Go to Google Images.
  2. Find an image that accurately represents the event.
  3. Right click on the image and select “Copy image URL”.
  4. Paste the URL in the image box on your map.
  5. Click “Add”.
  6. Repeat for additional images using the (+) sign.
