IN BRIEF: Welcome from your 2014-2015 Co-Presidents

 (click for larger version)

Hello fellow postdocs!

Thank you for your participation and support in last month’s elections! Election participation doubled from last year, and we hope this increased trend in JHPDA participation continues during the upcoming year. We would also like to express our extreme gratitude for the hard work of last year’s executive officers, committee chairs, and committee members!

We are honored to serve as your 2014-2015 Co-Presidents, and with your help we’re looking forward to a productive year. We thought we’d take this opportunity to briefly share some of our goals for this term.

In addition to hosting National Postdoc Appreciation Week (and POSTDOCtoberfest!), our annual Postdoc Retreat, and the many events organized by each of the JHPDA’s exceptional committees, we are also interested in pursuing the following initiatives:

  • Increase JHPDA visibility with university administrators, faculty, & postdocs.
  • Restructure the JHPDA website so resources can be more easily located.
  • Implement a Postdoc Award Program for topics such as research, innovation, public service, mentoring, advocacy, communication, and leadership.
  • Collaborate with Dr. Martha Zeiger, Associate Dean of Postdoctoral Affairs, to implement an internship program for gaining skills and experiences in jobs outside of academic research.

We hope you will take advantage of what the JHPDA and the Professional Development Office have to offer! Getting involved not only benefits the postdoc community, but also you: have fun, make new friends, expand your network, and gain transferable leadership skills. If you’re interested in helping with one of the above initiatives, joining a committee, have an idea for an event, or would like to make a suggestion, please contact us at postdoc@jhmi.edu.

We are here to help ensure that you enjoy your postdoctoral training experience and to help prepare you for the next step in your career. Use us, work with us, and join us!
