On my return here this morning, I found my portrait [4555] had arrived quite safely & I hasten to send you a cheque for £315 the amount you so very kindly said you would accept for it (This of course, in the very

strictest confidence)
I am happy to say that my wife[1] likes it very much & is so pleased to have it. We both owe you our best thanks for all the pains you took with it & I only hope that you yourself are

also pleased. It will eventually be hung in our London house[2] & I hope so much that, when we return there in the Autumn, that you will come & see us & the portrait ‘in situ’ –
[hanging?] as a pendant
