I am going to preface this by saying the fursuit maker has indeed finished other people's fursuits and has no record (that I am aware of) of scamming or taking money. They make quality suits and other customers are very satisfied with her work...
Fursuit Maker and I agreed on a commission for one fursuit head. I paid them 450$ on the date of Feb. 24 2023 via paypal. Maker specifically requested payment using the "friends and family" option, making it impossible to get a refund through paypal...
they said it would be done “March-April”, or about 2 months. Payment was made in full. Maker promised to make a head mock-up day of payment, which never happened, though later they did show me some place-holder bases. Maker never updated even after missing multiple deadlines, only responding when I would reach out but would never message me to say things would be late or any updates.
Maker promised the following deadlines:
DEADLINE 1: Completion March-April 2023, said on Feb 24 2023.
DEADLINE 2: Said they would begin in May 2023 (1 month after the first deadline.), said on Mar. 23 2023.
DEADLINE 3: September 2023 (7 months after first deadline), said on Aug. 10th 2023.
DEADLINE 4: would be done around Oct-November (9 months after first deadline), said on Oct. 4 2023.
DEADLINE 5: Said they would try to finish by the end of the year, December (10 months after the first deadline). Said this on Nov 13 2023.
All were missed. Meanwhile, The maker continued to advertise taking new comms despite not even beginning mine. A 3D base was never designed, nor printed, thus Fur was never cut, etc. Maker saved only 3 reference images of the character despite me sending multiple, which implies they never intended to start work, as the updated photos had key design notes. As stated earlier, The maker made no concept images or 3d base designs, despite agreeing to do so on the date of payment.
Maker told me they printed the headbase of my suit on Jan. 12 2024 (11 months after the first deadline..) but never sent an image. Maker finishes suits in order of who has an upcoming con or who pays a rush fee, but I had waited an entire year and 2 months and they had missed the deadline 5 times. Maker tried to resolve the issue by promising to begin work and add paws + tail to my order, but I declined the tail so it wouldn't take as long. Maker never began the paws.
Maker informs me that they had a family death that would slow the progress of work; However, this was 8 months after I commissioned them, and they continued to take new commissions afterward. Queue currently has 20+ ongoing suit commissions as of April 1 2024, So it isn't like they're just behind on some comms and working on them before taking on new work, they are continuously taking more and more work and leaving older orders unfinished. This isn't criminal, but it is very unprofessional.
I would understand if they had to halt work upon beginning my suit, I would be patient, and I have been; However they made no attempts or plans to work on my suit until Mar. 15 2024 when I had suggested I was being scammed, because I genuinely had no reason to believe I'd ever get my suit; and even then, they only made a 3D mock up of (incorrect) ears on a place-holder base. When I had googled their name to see any scamming history, I came across 3 other clients that complained of not yet having their comm started or waiting months to a year for any work to begin or to have their suit. One client claims that the maker sent them images of a suit that isn't theirs when asking for progress images. Another client, which commissioned in 2023, also reported waiting over a year for their suit to be started. Multiple completed orders on FursuitReview.com reported multiple missed deadlines and lack of communication. Maker offered to send a free fursuit base for the wait time; I declined, and just requested my money back
Maker agreed to a refund on April 1 2024, with a deadline refund date of July 1 to pay (their own words.)
As of July 18, no money has been received. they have either ignored my messages or have not seen them. I have changed this from a "caution" to a "beware" for that reason.
I hesitate to call this a scam because we agreed on a refund. I will update if I need to, but part of me honestly thinks I’ll never see that money again. I consider this a scam because I think it is absolutely ridiculous to not only wait an entire year for a head, but that they are continuing to take commissions without even touching mine despite missing multiple deadlines for my suit and other’s. I also think lying to another client constitutes scammy behavior, but as of now I don't have definite proof of this beyond a 3rd party screenshot and I do not want to involve other clients as this is my issue only.
Even if I am paid, I feel obligated to keep this post up, as a warning to other people. I understand that their work is good quality, but their business practices are absolutely unacceptable. If they cannot even BEGIN my suit after more than a YEAR, they should not be taking new commissions! They have been working on other suits, but have never touched mine. I understand some clients are more important than others and I would not be complaining if I had waited less than a year for only a head. You are free to disagree with me, but I know others may not be willing to have their suit put on the backburner for 365+ days without any progress but the maker is still taking on new projects. I am going to be called a bully and likely receive some mobbing as this is a somewhat popular fursuit maker on instagram. This will likely come from people who either didn't have to wait a year for a single head or people who simply don't mind the wait. If the maker had told me the turnaround was a year or more, I would have understood. But they promised multiple deadlines and I received nothing... Not even the promised refund.
I have reason to suspect that they have blocked me via telegram.
Another note: they claimed to have printed my base but that is untrue, I was only shown an image of it.
Last image was me sending my paypal info for a refund. I mistakenly said 500$ instead of 450$. Again, they promised a July 1st deadline.
