How do I prepare for StartupConnect?

Make note of the companies attending (we pre-advertise) and research the companies you are most interested in. If you will be bringing a resume, bring several copies. Also talk with professors, peers and others about their knowledge of the companies and industry. Be yourself and be ready to talk!

Can we bring corporate giveaway items or literature about the company or jobs?

We ask that you only bring business cards or business card size info cards. iPads or other devices used expressly for the purpose of capturing student resumes are allowed.

Please no literature, laptops, demos, booths, or tablecloths. StartupConnect is more focused on the networking and information exchange aspect of connecting employers with students than swag. This also reduces the environmental impact of recruiting as well as your need to haul in extra items, not to mention the money it will save in product and shipping!

Who may attend StartupConnect?

StartupConnect is open to all Duke currently enrolled students and select students from other universities. Companies from all industry sectors are represented at the event!

What is the dress code?

Business casual is the typical attire for employers. Most company representatives wear their company polo and slacks. Students will tend to dress more formally as they view this as an opportunity to make an important connection with industry representatives, but some will choose business casual.

Should I bring a resume?

While StartupConnect is more of a networking event, students are welcome to bring resumes.

While StartupConnect is more of a networking event, students do bring resumes, which you are welcome to accept!

What should I expect during the networking portion of the event?

Employer representatives will be available at designated areas to chat with you about your background, interest in their company and review opportunities available.

Who attends StartupConnect?

StartupConnect is open to all currently enrolled students at Duke University and select invited students from other universities.

What do I need to bring to StartupConnect?

Your questions and resumes, if you wish! Please remember to research the companies prior to attending so that you are able to maximize your time asking relevant questions instead of asking what they do…

What is the set up like for the networking event?

Duke University provides a café table and company signage for the networking portion of the event.

Is food service provided?

Yes! Food will be provided by Jimmy Kim and his crew from Mixed Casual Korean Bistro. Sweets will be provided by alum Chris Duke and his bakers at Anna’s Gourmet Goodies. Both Jimmy and Chris are alumni of Fuqua.
