PRESENTS THE 2016 NATIONAL WATER DANCE MOVEMENT IN LOS ANGELES
Bringing back the National Water Dance Movement to the City of Angels in 2016 - Brought to you
California is not the only area affected by drought. Water is crucial to our everyday use and overall survival; however, more often than not efforts to preserve and conserve water are overlooked. With devastating issues such as those in the Flint - Today more than ever, water conservation awareness is extremely crucial. Worldwide, every 90 seconds a child dies from a water-related disease. Let’s help change that!
Dance Engagements, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization is spearheading this year’s efforts in getting the Los Angeles community involved by coming together in a dance effort that is showcased in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, as well as streamed online. In effort to create a “national water ethic”, dancers from all over the nation are connecting online and forming a simultaneous movement online exhibiting the power of art, community and social action.
The original concept for the National Water Dance Movement stems out of Florida, back in 2011 the New World School of Arts launched the “Florida Waterways Dance Project”, which included a statewide, site specific performance including 23 school participants and involved more than eight cities. Since 2011, the movement has evolved immensely now representing more than 29 states and over 90 schools participating.
This year we are choosing to host the event at the prestigious California Plaza once again. California Plaza is the primary location elected for this specific event because we feel that this premier space allows us to share a phenomenal message about water ethics and how we can make a change through the art of dance. We take this tradition and put together an entire hour-long spectacle free of charge to the public.
As the only non profit organization in Los Angeles to participate in this national event, we are desperately seeking your help.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Bringing the National Water Dance Movement to the City of Los Angeles
Powered by dance, community and technology generating change for water use awareness.
LOS ANGELES- California is not the only area affected by drought. Water is crucial to our everyday use and overall survival; however, more often than not efforts to preserve and conserve water are overlooked. Not only is the Los Angeles community getting involved but are striking back by coming together in a dance effort that is showcased in the heart of downtown Los Angeles as well as streamed online. In effort to create a “national water ethic”, dancers from all over the nation are connecting online and forming a simultaneous movement online exhibiting the power of art, community and social action.
“We are excited to include Los Angeles to this wonderful movement that celebrates art in the form of action”, said Smile Garcia, Producer of the National Water Dance Movement in Los Angeles, “it is exciting to see people who care come together and connect on this level to make a true statement.”
The original concept for the National Water Dance Movement stems out of Florida, back in 2011 the New World School of Arts launched the “Florida Waterways Dance Project”, which included a statewide, site specific performance including 23 school participants and involved more than eight cities. Since 2011, the movement has evolved immensely now representing more than 29 states and over 90 schools participating, seven coming from California.
This will be Los Angeles’s second time participating in the movement, in an event taking place on April 16th 2016 beginning at 1pm in the center core of Downtown Los Angeles at the California Plaza. The focus will contribute to the issues of drought, conservation, floods, and ocean pollution. “What makes this event so special is that the community is allowed to speak out and support by educating others with physical movement. It can be powerful to see people come out in numbers and flow together, we are the ocean of change,” Garcia stated.
Each state will represent their own localized water based issues and through dance portray its causes and effects within each community. This dance consequently translates into a national choir based on movement and voices, focused on bringing about change when it comes to education of water conservation and environmental education using the arts. It is a collaboration effect, using technology to connect people that have never met and live in completely different areas uniting for the same cause.
The National Water Dance Movement Los Angeles is a community based event dedicated to spreading knowledge on water ethics and environmental education, through the Arts. For additional information on the National Water Dance Movement please visit www.DanceEngagements.org

Dear Smile Garcia and Board of Directors,
National Water Dance wants to thank you and Dance Engagements for again participating with so much enthusiasm in our April 16, 2016 national event. You and Dance Engagements were the first in Los Angeles to accept our invitation in 2014 and your energetic involvement created an exciting community of participants in LA. Having returning participants is a fulfilling recognition of our mission, to engage dancers in using their art to create social change. Your pioneering spirit in this project has resulted in the LA Unified School District’s participation this year. Dance Engagements is putting LA on the map for environmental dance. National Water Dance is grateful for all that you have done and continue to do in supporting our efforts to bring the power of dance into the search for solutions in dealing with water issues around the country.
With much appreciation,
National Water Dance
