12th September 1923.

Madam La baronne Baeyens,

81 Rue de Lille,

Paris.

Madam,

Mr. de Laszlo directs me to acknowledge receipt of your letter and the account of your frame maker enclosed, which he cannot understand.[1]

When your picture [2825] was returned to you, you wrote saying that the plate glass with which it was framed had not been replaced. Mr. de Laszlo immediately communicated with the French Gallery pointing this out to them, and asked them to communicate with their Agents in Paris (Pottier) to put the matter in order. The French Gallery have recently stated they received a letter from Pottier saying that he would attend to the matter without delay.

As the French Gallery are directly responsible for this, providing the picture was collected by their Agents (Pottier) and it had a glass when they collected it, Mr. de Laszlo cannot understand why he has received your frame maker’s bill, unless your picture was packed on your instructions by your own frame maker, in which case Mr. de Laszlo thinks he can hardly be held responsible.

Mr. de Laszlo regrets very much that this trouble has arisen, and he will be very glad to hear from you on the matter.

Yours faithfully,

SMDL
