HOPE THEATER, UNIVERSITY OF OREGON

CLASS AND PERFORMANCES

Please join ENG 410/510: Story Circle Theater for live performances of

Who Knew?, an original play based on the stories shared, written, and performed by the University of Oregon students and Lane County disability communities throughout the course. Together, the UO students and Lane County disability communities branch out into performing arts, creative writing, community engagement, media communications, and more profound knowledge of disability cultures. Please join us for FREE performances at Hope Theater in the Miller Theater Complex on the UO's campus. You don’t need a ticket, but come early to get a seat. Free and accessible parking available. We hope to see you in the audience!

TRIGGER WARNINGS

The play’s opening announcements give approximate times for potentially triggering content.

·      Act 1 Scene 1, “What Are You Doing in a Box?” is about bullying.

·      Act 1 Scene 2, “Ways We Move Through the World,” refers to suicidal thoughts.

·      Act 1 Scene 1, “AuTetris,” simulates needle injections. The substances the actors pretend to inject in this scene are safe because they are regulated and dosed consistently. To support people who use unregulated substances, get Narcan and Fentanyl test strips, and advocate for a safe supply.

DIRECTIONS, PARKING, AND WHEELCHAIR VALET

The Hope Theater is in the Miller Theatre Complex at the University of Oregon, 1109 Old Campus Lane or 1231 University Avenue, next to the Dad’s Gates EMX Station, just before East 11th Avenue merges with Franklin Boulevard.

Below you’ll find an aerial shot around the area of Hope Theater to give you an idea of the location and where you can find accessible parking and general parking in relation to the theater. Parking across East 11th Avenue from the theater is free during showtimes. There are ADA parking spots in this lot, and 6 more past the theater entrance on the south side of the Miller Theatre Complex building.

WHEELCHAIR VALET

Because ADA spots are limited, we offer a Wheelchair Valet service.

  1. Drivers, please pull into the driveway in front of the Hope Theater.  Ushers will be there to help direct or push audience members in mobility devices to their seats.
  2. Drivers can then find parking if accessible parking is not available.
  3. The ushers will take note of how many there are in the party and will help secure seats for those attending with people using mobility devices.

DISABILITY STUDIES MINOR

Most of the University of Oregon students in this class will receive a minor in Disability Studies (DS) at the end of their four years. The field of DS focuses on the history, culture, rights, and movements surrounding various bodyminds, from physical, mental, emotional, and so much more. We aim to create an environment designed for ALL to exist within. The minor has been under financial threat and is fortunate enough to be saved another year, but the hard work put into protecting it doesn't stop there. If you are interested in helping continue the growing world of Disability Studies, please visit the minor website to learn more about the minor, the classes students take to explore the field, and an area to donate to the minor!
