SUBJECT: Urgent Appeal Regarding the Wrongful Deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
Dear [Inter-American Commission on Human Rights / UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants],
I am writing to urge your immediate attention to the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador on March 15, 2025, despite a standing U.S. immigration court order that explicitly protected him from removal to that country due to credible threats to his life.
Mr. Abrego Garcia is now imprisoned in a high-security Salvadoran prison. His deportation defied a U.S. court ruling, and he is being held in conditions that endanger his health and safety. A U.S. District Court judge described the deportation as “wholly lawless” and ordered his return. That order has been ignored.
This situation represents a violation of Mr. Abrego Garcia’s human rights, as well as a serious erosion of judicial authority and due process.
I respectfully request that your office:
• Investigate the deportation and current detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
• Issue a statement or urgent call for his release and safe return.
• Monitor the U.S. administration’s compliance with court orders related to this case.
• Treat this as a matter of regional and international human rights concern.
Thank you for your time and commitment to justice.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
