 C.  Apply Gap Analysis

At current status, the target audience, Modoc High School teachers, need to integrate technology into their everyday curriculum for better communication and for enhancing 21st century educational skills.  The desired outcome would be to have full implementation of the selected social learning platform, Edmodo.   This platform is a way to provide all those connected to it with a secure and easy way to communicate classroom materials, links and videos, homework access, grades, and other notices.  This platform allows all to store and share all types of digital content.

This project currently suggests that technology objectives are not being adequately addressed, and communication could improve ten folds.  Evaluation must be based in fact and not speculation, and Gap Analysis is one way to gauge needs.

By applying Gap Analysis to the current project at hand consideration must be given to where we are at currently.

 Leg A, assessing needs:

Curricular goals / objectives:

Instructional intervention is required because the school administration is moving forward to introduce and implement a new (to some) social networking platform to their educational staff.   The Goal: After completing the training, all instructors will be able to create an educational social network for their classroom(s).  Successful implementation is dependent on having staff buy-in to the staff development necessary to make optimal changes.  For example, teachers’ implementation in supporting the overall objective will provide a means to gather information from data gathering items such as: questionnaires, observation and other to see a better picture of current functioning.

Leg B, the bridge:

By filling in gaps we can impact those curriculum goals/objectives.  By establishing the capabilities and features of using a social networking platform would provide further use of the program at other school sites within the district.

Leg C, goals:

Consideration essential to this part would consider where we want to be both efficiently and effectively in implementing social networking into the curriculum. At this point it is important for all stakeholders to become involved. If stakeholders have not reached an agreement that this is working/or not, and what is viewed as a gap by some may be of little or no concern to others.  While working with Edmodo a variety of teachers may see a large gap for those who are spending a large amount of time and energy to fill that gap, other teacher’s may dismiss the who project because they don’t see potential benefits; or worse are just waiting out their time and avoiding progress.

While implementation is of primary importance to school administration, teachers may view this as one of those passing fads and is just one of many programs that must be considered by district administration.  In addition, the impact of internet usage through the IT department might result in an impact on implementation.  Involvement for all stake holders, is very important as early on as possible.  This will help ensure that everything and everyone is on the same page to make things run smoothly.

d.  Explain Figure 3.1 Program Cycle in terms of program you detailed in exercises in chapter 1 & again in chapter 2.
