WORKSESSIONS ABOUT GENDER EQUALITY
And you, what do you do?
Class session about co-responsibility at houseworks.
This session was focused on 2nd cycle students (8-10 years old) but it could be perfectly applied on other ages, specially pupils 10-12 years old.
This is only a way to breaking-ice for become aware about the big work at home, done usually by women (mothers specially, maybe daughters...)
In 45 minutes we have time for talk a little about mores at home, roles and pre-fixed ideas.
Later, in a way of funny game (unconscious game), pupils explain what are his mores and cooperation at home, not only of them, but by the other family members.
Fort that, we have started from some key questions, for provoke an interactive dialogue.
At last, and in a kind of homework, we demand to pupils to compromise to do themselves some of these houseworks (or collaborate in them) and to convince other family members to do the same, disseminating this work. Next week, or other time interval, we'll pass again the survey for compare new and old results.
OBJECTIVES:
a) To be conscious about a lot of “invisible” works at home.
b) Recognize real situation about these works.
c) Check role of family members about it.
d) Change mind, see with other point of view.
e) Try to convince other people about it.
Activities planning:
- Distribute information to the whole group, in which a list appears tasks that are performed daily at home.
- Write in the first box the names of all family members.
- Next to each task, we must write the name of the person or those who routinely perform. Once completed, addone point for each family member to perform a task.
- We share the results.
- Recall that in this list, we must add the work away from home, caring for children or small children or study. This increases the work considerably.
- Explain the concept of co-responsibility at home and discussing how we can better distribute the tasks.
Key questions:
- Who does most of the work?
- How many tasks you carry out at home?
- Is it fair that domestic work this spread of unevenly?
