Want the Quick Version? Try the ASR Drivers Meeting
NOTE: The ASR Rulebook is designed to ensure orderly conduct of all ASR sanctioned events. Anything not covered by the following rules, abuse of rules, and creative interpretation of the rules should be checked with an ASR Official before proceeding. Any decision on questionable items about rules is up to the ASR President and his decision is FINAL! Additional regulations may be imposed before any event. All drivers must comply.
NOTE: If information elsewhere conflicts with information here in the rules, the rule book takes precedence. If in doubt, please ask an official.
1.01 Software: ASR uses iRacing.com servers and ASR drivers must subscribe to iRacing.com.
1.02 Steering Wheel: ALL DRIVERS are required to own and utilize a steering wheel controller when competing in any ASR event. NO EXCEPTIONS!
1.03 A high speed internet connection (no 56k dial up connections permitted) is required to compete at ASR.
1.04 Registration: ALL DRIVERS must submit an entry form prior to competition. By filling out this entry form, the driver agrees to be bound by the procedures set forth by the ASR. Additionally, the driver releases the use of their name, car number, car photo, team name, etc. in any type of media the ASR so chooses to utilize. Registration will become inactive after 30 days of inactivity.
1.05 All drivers competing in the ASR must submit their real name AND their iRacing ID. Scoring will be done using the Player Name and account number in iRacing. Submitting a false identity is grounds for expulsion from the American Sim Racing.
1.05.1 DRIVER/PARTICIPANT IDENTITY. The sanctioning body requires that any driver who will be awarded championship points, positions, and if applicable prizes, awards, and/or championship points funds will be present at each and every session for which awards or championship points are available and will indeed be the driver they represent themselves as via login name and chat room conversation. Only the driver present will accrue championship points and be eligible for posted awards.
1.06 Expectations: Drivers are expected to be prepared to drive at the scheduled track each week. This includes being able to drive a smooth high and low line at the track, being able to move cleanly and safely out of the way of faster traffic when being lapped, understanding pit entry/exit procedures, and knowing pit road speeds.
1.07 Competitor Behavior: ASR members are expected to treat their fellow competitors with respect. Disrespectful behavior during ASR races, events or on the ASR social media platforms may be subject to penalization at the discretion of the event admin or ASR President. Personal attacks and bullying will not be tolerated.
1. First offense: WARNING
2. 2nd offense: FINAL WARNING and Social Media mute up to 30 days
3. 3rd offense: REMOVAL from league
1.07.1 Vulgarity: Vulgarity and other off-color behavior is prohibited during ASR races, events and on the ASR social media platforms. Vulgarity will be penalized and off-color behavior may be subject to penalization at the discretion of the event admin or ASR President. It will be up to the admin and/or ASR President to decide whether a particular infraction meets the threshold for penalization. This is an adult racing league and some adult language is to be expected.
1.07.2 Drivers choosing to utilize social media inappropriately will be given a warning and/or probation for the first offense, probation and/or suspension for the second offense and removed entirely from the league for any further offenses. In all instances the post MUST be removed before returning to competition.
2.01 Membership for ASR is free of cost to any driver who is in good standing with the league at any time; however, series specific entry fees may be required to compete. ASR reserves the right to exclude drivers from competition based on previous league history, iRating, iRacing Safety Rating, etc. No current or former PRO Series drivers will be permitted to compete in ASR. Any drivers with an asphalt oval iRating over 5000 in the previous 12 months will be excluded.
2.02 All new members and returning inactive members will be required to complete and submit an ASR Entry Form before entering any event. New memberships will be placed on a 30 day probation period.
2.03 ASR General Membership will continue until the end of the current registration period unless one of the following occurs:
2.04 New entries will be permitted up to two choices of car numbers. ASR does not allow for duplicate car numbers; therefore, the earliest entrant will get their choice of car number. Please be aware of this and have your car painted and assigned with the correct car number. ASR reserves the right to assign and re-assign car numbers as the administration deems necessary. ONCE A NUMBER IS ASSIGNED, NO CHANGES MAY BE MADE WITHOUT APPROVAL FROM THE SERIES ADMINISTRATOR.
2.04.1 A “common number” system will be in place in all ASR divisions. You MUST race with the same number in ALL divisions. Only one driver per car number and only one car number per driver is permitted.
2.04.2 Only numbers from 00-199 are allowed. No #0XX numbers will be permitted. (Ex. #014 or 007)
2.05 Team ownership is limited to active ASR members only. Teams will be permitted up to FOUR drivers per team. Teams may not engage in any efforts to manipulate the outcome of races.
3.01 The iRacing.com software governs and enforces the rules of the race and those rules will be used as is in ASR.
3.02 The iRacing.com Sporting Code will govern race procedures, if not covered specifically in the ASR rules.
3.03 Series Specific Rules: The Race Director of each ASR series may, at his/her option; activate series specific rules.
3.03.1 Truck Series:
Truck Series events will utilize the Truck Series Supplemental Rulebook
3.03.2 All American Series:
All American Series events will utilize the All American Series Supplemental Rulebook
3.04 Excessive chat during green flag racing is not permitted. Chat during qualifying is not permitted. Once a caution flag flies, there should be no public chat until the pit road is open for lead lap cars. The only chat permitted will be the leader calling out the location of the pace vehicle, drivers taking credit for causing the caution or drivers calling out a stopped or slowed car on the racing surface. Chat should be completely stopped after the “one-to-go” notice is given.
3.05 Starts and Restarts:
3.05.1 On the Initial Start: iRacing “Restart Zone” rules apply. All drivers must maintain the lane assigned until crossing the finish line and the Green flag dictates the start.
3.05.2 On all Restarts: iRacing “Restart Zone” rules apply. You may change lanes any time after the leader restarts. There will be no slowing once the leader “starts or restarts the race.” We will not clear black flags for jumped restarts.
3.05.3 Drivers are not permitted to use the apron of the race track until after crossing the start-finish line on all starts and restarts of the race.
3.05.4 NO LAYING BACK!!! The leader will be given a maximum of TWO car lengths between the pace car and his/her car. Once the pace car makes its dedicated turn to the pit road, the leader must maintain pace car speed until restarting the race.
3.06 Black Flags: Both the iRacing software and the ASR Officials may issue black flags during an event for violations of race rules or for competitor conduct.
3.06.1 Drivers facing a black flag under caution MUST take the restart of the race and cross the start/finish line on the racing surface before serving the black flag.
3.06.2 Officials MAY clear black flags that are erroneously given to a competitor by the iRacing software during the race. The driver must request the black flag be cleared through in-race chat within a reasonable time after the occurrence.Black flags will be cleared under the following conditions ONLY:
3.06.3 All cleared black flags are subject to post race review. If an official determines that a black flag was incorrectly cleared, the driver who requested the black flag be cleared will be issued a 10 point post race penalty.
3.07 Pit Entries and Exits: During all ASR sessions drivers must enter and exit the pits properly. The yellow cones will mark the commitment line. Drivers exiting pit road must re-enter the track after the blue cones at all times. Tracks that require the use of access roads will be announced in the Driver’s meeting prior to the race.
3.07.1 Drivers entering pit road are expected to enter the pit road in a single file line in the lane closest to the racing surface (furthest away from the pit stalls) and must remain in that lane until turning into their pit stalls.
3.07.2 Drivers are not permitted to drive through pit boxes, and will be limited to a maximum of THREE pit boxes prior to their pit stalls and THREE pit boxes after their pit stall. Drivers inflicting damage on pit road as a result of driving through pit boxes will be subject to post race penalty.
3.08 Caution Flags/Incident Points:
3.08.1 Drivers who choose to debate guilt or fault for a caution will automatically be given an end of the longest line penalty. At no time will we allow drivers to argue over the cause of a caution during an event.
3.08.2 The primary responsibility for avoiding contact with a competitor resides with the overtaking competitor and the secondary responsibility resides with the Competitor(s) being overtaken. A competitor who fails to demonstrate their responsibility and initiates a maneuver that results in contact with another competitor may be penalized.
3.08.3 Any Driver who causes an incident under caution will be issued an EOL (end of the longest line) penalty.
3.09 Track Specific Rules: ASR Officials may enforce track specific rules with notice given in the driver’s meeting.
3.09.1 Superspeedway Races (Atlanta, Daytona & Talladega): No passing below the solid/double yellow line at any time under green flag conditions. Vehicles are to remain above the yellow line at all times on the race’s final lap. Passing below the yellow line will result in a black flag.
3.10 Race Replays: All drivers are required to save their replay of the race for a period of 72 hours after the completion of each sanctioned event in each series. Upon request by any ASR official a driver must send the requested segment of their own replay via e-mail to the requesting official within 48 hours from the request. Any driver failing to comply will be disqualified from said event, forfeit any points received in said event, and will also be excluded from returning to series competition until notified by an ASR official.
3.11 Don't Stop on the Track: A driver should always pit properly before stopping, unless the driver's vehicle is disabled or (s)he is blocked (by wrecked vehicles, for example). Drivers stopping on the track will face penalty.
3.12 Manipulating the outcome of an event: Any driver or team manipulating the outcome of an event, manipulating the finishing order, intentionally wrecking or causing a caution will be suspended indefinitely and will lose all points earned in that event.
3.13 Damaged/Slower Cars: Vehicles that are damaged and could present a dangerous situation to other drivers should be parked. The driver should not try to turn laps to gain positions unless (s)he can control the vehicle and is certain that (s)he will not wreck other drivers.
3.13.1 DAMAGED VEHICLE CLOCK: Vehicles with more than 10 minutes of required repairs will be retired from the event immediately. Any vehicle that is stopped in the pit box (time measured from the time the car completely stops in the pit box until it fully exits the pit box) will be disqualified immediately. Drivers that choose to continue with a damaged vehicle and then cause further incidents will be penalized accordingly.
3.13.2 Drivers who are black flagged for damage (black flag with orange circle) MUST report to the pit road within 3 laps of the flag. If the race is less than three (3) laps from completion the driver will be permitted to stay on track.
3.13.4 Drivers will be required to meet a minimum speed, generally 110% of the midpoint of the field in qualifying. In some instances (i.e. tracks with heavy tire wear) the leader’s lap time may be used to determine the minimum speed.
3.13.5 LAPPED CARS have the right to race to stay on the lead lap. THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE a lapped car taking aggressive action to wreck the leader or lead lap cars if they are passing you to place you a lap down. . If a lapped car is racing another lapped car for position, they should still be mindful of the lead lap driver's position relative to them, but it becomes more the leader’s responsibility to navigate a safe path around the lapped vehicles.
3.13.6 Lapped vehicles are expected to maintain a consistent line when being lapped and once lapped should move out of the preferred racing line to allow lead lap vehicles to safely pass. Lapped vehicles should hold a consistent and predictable line while being passed.
3.13.7 At Superspeedways (Atlanta, Daytona, Talladega) slower and lapped vehicles are required to move to the outermost lane and hold it to allow the pack to pass.
3.14 Retaliatory actions are not permitted and is grounds for suspension. THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO TOLERANCE FOR ANY DRIVER WHO TAKES AN AGGRESSIVE POSTURE TOWARDS ANOTHER COMPETITOR ON TRACK. Any driver doing so will be subject to point penalties, suspension or expulsion. The Race Director will hold the final decision to determine if an incident is retaliatory and will levy penalties accordingly. Penalties may include a loss of points, suspension or expulsion from ASR.
Note: We all race for fun. We all make mistakes. Everyone gets caught up in other’s mistakes. It is extremely unlikely the other driver was intentionally trying to ruin your night. Accept it and move on. If necessary, file a protest with the Race Director after the race. Never use retaliatory chat or take aggressive retaliatory actions against a fellow driver during or after a race. Such behavior will not be tolerated in ASR.
3.15 If the server crashes or if there is a mass-boot (more than 50% of drivers drop connection at once) then the following procedure will be used. If less than one-half of race laps have been completed, the race will be restarted from the beginning if time permits. If one-half or more laps have been completed the race will not be re-started. In this case, if a results file can be salvaged, the results indicated by the file will be used as the final race results. If no results file is available, the race is canceled and not used in standings/scoring.
3.16 Connection Quality/Disconnecting:
3.16.1 Drivers are required to maintain a consistent connection to the iRacing.com session server, drivers who warp, blink, or bounce are subject to penalty. Any time a driver is warned that his/her connection quality is poor, that driver must drop back out of the pack and if the connection quality does not improve that driver is expected to pull their vehicle to pit road.
3.16.2 Drivers disconnecting from the iRacing.com session server MANUALLY will be considered “retired” from the event and may not re-enter the event. Race Officials will “disqualify” a driver manually disconnecting.
3.16.3 Drivers disconnected from the iRacing.com session server due to throughput (connection) will be permitted to reconnect ONCE, if the connection quality does not improve or the driver disconnects again that driver will be considered “retired” from the event and may not re-enter the event. Race Officials will “disqualify” a driver disconnecting multiple times due to connection issues.
3.17 Locking Field/Entrants: The field will be considered “locked” as soon as the qualifying session opens. In the event of a full field, no new entries will be permitted to connect after that point.
3.18 Circumventing/Exploiting Software Package: At no time should a participant gain an unfair advantage by circumventing the software rules, exploiting loopholes in the software, utilizing illegal cheats, patches and/or hacks; that driver will face disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from ASR. Utilizing the wall to gain speed to pass vehicles, cutting the course and cutting corners will be considered exploiting the simulation software.
4.01 Starting Position Determination (NASCAR Based Only):
4.01.1 The Truck Series will feature up to 32 starters, the Top 16 drivers in the championship standings each race will be guaranteed starters or “locked in”, so long as those drivers maintain a greater than 75% attendance rate. 15 drivers will qualify into the race on time, with the final starting position being designated for the most recent series champion not already in the starting field, if no past champion fails to qualify for the race, the most recent ASR champion will receive the position and if no former ASR champions fail to qualify the position will be awarded to the next fastest qualifier. The number of starters may be modified to accommodate racing at dirt venues.
4.01.2 At the beginning of each season, ASR Officials will designate a number of races to carry over the “locked in” drivers from the previous season (likely three or four events depending on the length of the season). This number will not exceed 30% of the scheduled events.
4.01.3 If the series does not use the lock-in system, the fastest __ drivers will qualify on time, with three drivers qualifying on points provisionals and the final starting position provisional will be awarded to the most recent past champion of the series not already qualified for the event (if necessary). If there are no previous series champions not already qualified, the provisional will go to the fastest driver not already qualified.
4.02 Single Car Qualifying: (Used at all oval races unless otherwise noted)
4.02.1 There is to be no driver chat during single car qualifying.
4.02.2 Drivers who are late to the drivers meeting or fail to complete a competitive lap in practice will be required to start at the rear of the field.
4.02.3 Drivers are required to complete their qualifying attempt in the first five minutes of the qualifying session.
4.03 Group Qualifying: Will consist of a timed qualifying period. Drivers will be permitted to run as many laps as time permits. Each driver’s fastest lap will be used as their qualification lap. All race rules will be in place. Drivers who are late to the drivers meeting or fail to complete a competitive lap in practice will be required to start at the rear of the field.

6.01 All drivers must attempt to qualify in 75% of series specific events to be eligible for prizes/awards. Series specific awards and prizes are described in detail on series information tab found on the ASR website.
6.02 Failure to display required decals nullifies a member’s prize eligibility.
7.01 The Race Team Alliance will be formed at the beginning of each year and will consist of various team owners and independent drivers selected by league members and administrators. The Race Team Alliance will hear appeals and assist in general league administration duties such as reviewing and approving rule changes.
8.01 The ASR President, Competition Director and/or Race Director may levy penalties (points, re-alignment of finishing position, probation, suspension, and in extreme circumstances; monetary fines) within their series at their discretion.
