The President’s State of the Union address should have spent more time discussing the nation’s unresolved fiscal challenges, according to an editorial by the Enid News and Eagle, located in Enid, Okla.

The article noted that a recent blog post, written by Concord Coalition Executive Director Robert L. Bixby, said that politicians had not addressed factors that will contribute to higher deficits and debt, including an aging population and rising health care costs. The blog states that putting our nation on a sustainable fiscal course requires reforms making major federal health care and retirement programs sustainable.

The editorial -- “President’s State of the Union Should Have Dealt More With the Debt, Deficit” -- urged lawmakers to make efforts now towards resolving the country's long-term budget challenges.
