[1] Likely Ferenc Kossuth (1841-1914), civil engineer, politician and son of Hungarian revolutionary, Lajos Kossuth (1802-94). At the time of this letter, Kossuth was Minister of Commerce. Kossuth had provided Stokes and his wife, Marianne Stokes, with useful information about various places in Hungary, particularly Lake Balaton. The year after this letter was written, Stokes published Hungary. Painted by Adrian & Marianne Stokes. Described by Adrian Stokes, Adam & Charles Black, London, 1909. Stokes describes Kossuth in the book as “an artist of considerable accomplishment, both as sculptor and painter”, q.v. Stokes, p. 268.

[2] Baron József Szterényi (né Stern) (1861-1941), Jewish Hungarian politician

[3] Unclear who Stokes is referring to, perhaps Baron Sámuel (Samu) Jósika de Branyicska (1848-1923), Hungarian politician

[4] See related DLA011-0015, letter from Adrian Scott Stokes to de László, 27 June 1907

[5] The Austrian painter Marianne Stokes, née Preindlsberger (1855-1927)
