DS LITE MAINBOARD FAULTS

POWER UP

Check what happens when you connect the battery to the contacts and switch on

If no green light is showing

BATTERY LINE CHECK

USE MULTIMETER ON CONTINUITY SETTING (MAKES A BEEP WHEN YOU TOUCH THE PROBES TOGETHER)

Check the continuity across from the battery contact to the capacitor (side where arrow is pointing) indicated on the drawing below by the 2 yellow arrows.

If the multi-meter does not beep or show zero ohms, keep one probe on the battery contact and work back towards it using the other probe as indicated by test points 1 and 2. (BLUE ARROWS)

If the check between the battery contact and test point 2 is open (does not buzz) –

Solder a thin gauge wire between test point 2 and the soldered end of the battery contact shown below.

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\battery line.JPG

If the path between test point 1 and 2 does not buzz-out (no beep) you need to change the fuse located in position F2 below!

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\My Documents\My Pictures\dscn0331od8.jpg

If the path between test point 1 and the capacitor does not buzz out (no beep), you need to solder a wire between the capacitor and test point 1 shown below.

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\Image 1-with markers2.JPG

As a final check, test that this path is working – take both probes and complete the first test between the battery contact and capacitor (the yellow arrows) to ensure that the multi-meter beeps and indicates continuity.

First Line Check Complete!

Voltage Path

Using the multimeter again, check the continuity (meter beeps) between test points indicated below.

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\Image 1-2-3.JPG

If this test fails, you need to solder a wire between the two points, and repeat the test to ensure continuity between the two test points.

2nd Voltage Check

Again repeat a similar test on the test point below

If this test fails you will need to solder a wire between the test points as shown below.

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\Image 1-3-4.JPG

Again repeat the test to ensure the paths are buzzing out (meter beeps).

Now when you connect the battery and switch on, the DS Lite board should switch on.

If not, proceed to next check!

3rd Voltage Check

Buzz out the two capacitors as per below.

If this does not buzz solder a wire between the two points.

If these do not work, try replacing Q5

Screen not working

Screens.jpg

If the top screen does not switch on (bottom screen flash), test the red points for continuity, if no response – solder a wire between them – screen should switch on

If the bottom screen does not work (top screen flash), test the blue test points for continuity, if no response – solder a wire between them – screen should switch on

I both screen do not switch on, follow the above and both should work.

No Sound

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\No Sound.jpg

Test for continuity between the two test points indicated by red arrows, if no beep, solder a wire between the two test points.

No Volume Control

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\Volume.jpg

Test for continuity between the two test points indicated by red arrows, if no beep, solder a wire between the two test points.

Mic not working

C:\Documents and Settings\kf1\Desktop\mic not woring.jpg

Test for continuity between the two test points indicated by red arrows, if no beep, solder a wire between the two test points.

If this does not fix the fault or the test passes, test between the Test Points for continuity indicated by the blue arrows, if no beep, solder a wire between the two test points.

DS not Storing Settings

data loss.JPG

Buzz out between the yellow arrows.

If there is no “buzz”, solder a wire between the two blue arrows.

i.e. between the top edge of the big cap and the battery contact.
