Sock Monkey Cape Set

What you’ll need:                  

Gauge using 5.0 mm hook: 14 Dc and 8 rows= 4”
Use the hook closest to this gauge



     Cape: Size Newborn
Using size 5.5 mm hook

R1) Chain 11, hdc second chain from hook. Hdc across. Turn, ch2 (10 hdc)

R2) Hdc across. Turn, ch 2. (10 hdc)

R3) Repeat R2

R4) 2 Hdc first st, 2 hdc next st, Hdc across til last 2 stitches. 2 hdc in second to last stitch, 2 hdc in last stitch. (This is making 4 increases in row 4) Turn, ch2 (14 hdc)

R5) Hdc increase in first stitch, hdc across til last stitch, Hdc increase. Turn, ch2 (16 hdc)

R6) Hdc across row. Turn, ch2 (16 hdc)

R7) Hdc increase, Hdc aross til last stitch, Hdc increase. Turn, ch2 (18 hdc)

R8) Hdc across row. Turn, ch2 (18 hdc)

R9) Hdc increase, Hdc across til last stitch, Hdc increase. Turn, ch2 (20 hdc)

R10) Hdc increse, Hdc across til last stitch, Hdc increase. Turn, ch2 (22 hdc)

R11- 21) Hdc aross row. Turn, ch2 (22 hdc)

R 22) Hdc decrease first two st together, Hdc across. Hdc last two st together. Turn, ch2 (20 hdc)

R 23- 24) Repeat row 21. Turn, ch2 (18, 16 hdc)

R 25) Hdc across row. Turn ch2 (16 hdc)

R 26) Hdc decrease, Hdc across til last 2 st. Hdc decrease. Turn, ch2 (14)

R 27) Repeat row 26. (12)  

R 28) Sc around entire cape. F/o.

Monkey Tail: 5.0 mm hook

I find it’s easier to stuff the tail as you work it.

R 1) With White yarn make a magic loop. Ch1, sc 8 st in loop. Join.


R 2) Continue to sc around (do not join rounds) until white tip of tail is as long as you would like.

 

R 3) Switch to Pink yarn and attach with invisible join. (You attach yarn to loop on hook, then sl st in next st) Ch1, sc around until you get back to invisible st. Join, ch1.

R 4) Sc in Pink for one more row. Switch to Brown yarn with invisible join. (Back to working in the round) Sc around piece until it measures 12 inches.

Fasten off and sew onto bottom of cape.

Newborn Hat: 5.0 mm hook
     Using size 5.0 mm hook

R 1) Using white yarn, magic circle. 12 dc in circle. Join, ch2 (12 dc)


R 2) 2 double crochet in each dc around. Join ch2 (24 dc)

R 3) 2 double crochet in same st as ch2, 1 dc next st. *2 dc next st, dc next st* Repeat around. Join, ch2 (36 dc)

*Switch to Pink yarn with invisible join, Ch2. (36)

R 4) Dc around. Join.

   

*Switch to Brown yarn with invisible join. Ch2 (36)


R 5-9) Dc around. Join, ch2.

R 10) Sc around. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Sock Monkey Mouth: 5.0 mm hook

R 1.) With Pink yarn Ch13. Sc in second chain from hook. Sc next 11 st. (12)

R 2) Change to White yarn with invisible join. Ch2, Hdc around, making sure to do 3 hdc st on ends of mouth. Join. Fasten off, leave tail to sew on hat.

Sock Monkey Ears: 3.75 mm hook

R 1) With Pink yarn make a magic circle. Ch3, 10 dc inside ring.

Change to Brown with invisible join. (10)

R 2) Ch2, 2 hdc in each dc. Join with sl st. (20)

R 3) Ch1, 1 sc in each st. Join with sl st. (20)

Fasten off leaving tail to sew onto hat. Weave in any loose strings.

Eyes:

Sew on black buttons for the eyes with white yarn.

Flower: 5.0 mm hook

R 1) With darker pink make a magic circle. Ch1, Sc 5 st into circle. Join.

R 2) *Ch2, sl st next st* Repeat from * around. (You should have 5 loops)


R 3) *Ch1, Hdc 3, Ch1 into loop* Repeat for each loop (5 Petals)

R 4) Sl st on back chain of R3 post, *Ch2, sl st next post* Rep. around (5 chain loops)

R 5) Change yarn to Light pink, *Ch1, Hdc, 3 Tc, Hdc, Sl st* in first chain loop. Repeat * in each chain loop. (5 Petals)

R 6) Sl st on back of R5 post, *Ch3, sl st next post* Rep. around (5 chain loops)

R 7) Change yarn to Dark pink, *Ch1, Hdc, 4 Tc, Hdc, sl st* in first chain loop. Repeat * in each chain loop. (5 Petals) Fasten off and sew in thread.

You can sew a button to center of flower if you prefer. For this flower I took brown yarn and made loops into middle then F/O.

(I personally prefer to hot glue the flower to an alligator clip to make it removable, but you can sew the flower onto the hat if you’d like.)
