JOURNAL 2 JOURNEY THEATER DIRECTOR

Hi-ARTS and Urban Word are currently accepting applications for a Theater Director. This temporary part-time position will support Journal 2 Journey students in the staging and performance of their creative writing projects. This is an onsite in-person position taking place primarily at El Barrio's Artspace PS 109 in East Harlem, home of Hi-ARTS.

Developed in 2004 in partnership with Urban Word, Journal 2 Journey (J2J) is a pre-professional creative youth development program that presents poetry in a three-dimensional way by allowing students to re-imagine their poetry as theatrical one-act plays. Learn more about Journal 2 Journey here.

Ideal candidates will have experience in pedagogy, creative writing (primarily poetry), playwriting, directing, and devised theater.

Compensation: $4,410 flat rate
Commitment: Approximately 50 hours

Note: An additional date/time will be added for program orientation, based on the schedule of all individuals involved. Some asynchronous work will be involved, including but not limited to: reporting session activity, and compiling the script. The week of September 3 will involve optional asynchronous remote work to select program participants.
