Build Your Own Tip Calculator

About the project

You just finish a great meal, your waiter hands you the bill, and now you’re supposed to know what 18% of $45.27. Unless you’re some Good Will Hunting, you’re not going to do that math in your head.

Lesson Overview

Show students how cells in a spreadsheet can not only include numbers and words, but also references to other cells by following = with the location of other cells. Furthermore, one can create equations using those references to calculate formulas.

Challenge students to figure out how to create a tip calculator so the user would enter values into a blank cell and the sheet would output the tip amount and the total amount to pay the restaurant.
