Buy-a-Brick for MOCT Orphanage

Who we are and how we are serving the regenerative movement?

The Mangwende Orphan Care Trust is working to support orphans and other vulnerable members of the rural communities through agroecological farming practices in Murehwa district, Zimbabwe. We are actively working with the Zimbabwe Circle to implement Seeds as payment and reward method in our communities.

We have secured an 18ha area two years ago, where we are using permacultural and other ecologically mindful practices to grow vegetables while regenerating the soil and the environment. We have planted over a thousand trees as part of our food forest project and other 1000+ trees as living fence.

The walls are now standing of our first orphanage building that aims to be home for 4 orphans, but as our only source is from donations to date, our progress is halted as we don't have sufficient funds to raise money for the thatching and buying doors and windows.

What is this campaign for?

We would like to launch our Buy-a-Brick scheme offering Seeds for those who donate us.

Raising $13 800 would enable us to build 2 additional single huts and 1 more double hut in this stage. A single hut would provide shelter for two orphans or one carer ($2800/hut) and a double hut for 4 orphans ($4100/hut).

Some indicative quantities required for a small hut:

Bricks: 10 000 pcs

Thatching grass: 3000 bundles

Nr of windows: 6

Nr of doors: 4

Some indication on prices:

£3 would enable us to buy 100 bricks

£5 would pay for 25 bundles of thatching grass

£10 for a box of tiles for the bathrooms

£15 for a slim window

£25 for a door

We would like to match every $20 donations that had been sent to the Trust's account https://www.paypal.me/moct  with Seeds. We are therefore asking for 400 000 Seeds, to make us able to do so, including admin costs.

What value are you offering the SEEDS community or the regenerative movement?

The regenerative movement will benefit by:

There are mainly have social aspects of this project:

  • providing shelter and care for orphaned children
  • providing permaculture and other environmental awareness themed education for the children as a wider scope of the permaculture school
  • building an exemplar project that can be replicated in other regions of the district and the country.

The SEEDS community will benefit by:

  • donors will receive Seeds as a reward for supporting our aims and we are aiming to onboard over 100 new members to the SEEDS community
  • indirectly spread the word about SEEDS through social media and by the new members, who donated
  • introducing SEEDS to the local services, who are working on the construction either as labour or as professionals, by offering Seeds payment fully or partially to their goods/services

What would you do with this grant and why are you asking for the # of Seeds you’re asking for?

We are asking for 380 000 Seeds and they are offered for those who are donating $20 towards our Buy-a-Brick campaign

20 000 Seeds for administration*

Total 400 000 Seeds

*We take 5% as admin fee depending on the new members, the remaining Seeds, if any, will be gifted to volunteers

How it will work?

We are asking all the potential donors to contact us if they want to receive SEEDS for their donations.

If already on SEEDS, we will need their SEEDS name and a screenshot of proof the money was sent, in order to be able to send the Seeds.

If not on SEEDS platform yet, but would like to receive Seeds and be part of the Seeds regenerative movement (www.joinseeds.com), we will send an invite to join. Please email us on brickseeds.moct@gmail.com .

As always, thank you for your ongoing support. We will keep you updated on our progress.
