V.11-20-13

Grid Back Up

6/14/13: Joe has connected 220 V power to the Hablab. All other work is near completion.

6/12/13: Joe has connected power to the shop and Hablab, 220 power still needs to run through the Hablab; trenching in work; power to middle rooms is restored; still need 220v power @ Hablab for dryer, trenching work completed, and power requirements routed in workshop.

May ask for additional lighting installed in dining room and perhaps 2 ceiling fans in living areas...recommendation/quote.

6/6/2013: Joe trenched to the pole and completed installation of the boxes and some of the wire routing in the shop; he also called Ameren--they will be out next week to hook up power to the pole. Because of rains and difficulty trenching through the forest, he may trench through an alternate route through the trees near the mud hut. MTF.

6/5/2013: Joe began trenching the wire; stopped due to rain; also needs to be paid $3500 and needs us to sign the work proposal

6/3/2013: Audrey spoke with Ameren techs on-site; Ameren is installing the pole and transformer; will be ready for trenching tomorrow.

Audrey spoke to Joe and he will be here on Wed, 5 June, to begin trenching or roughing out the interior work, depending upon the weather. He believes that if we get light rain, he can still trench.

5/29/2013:  Audrey received a phone call from Joe--waiting for Ameren to do their part before trenching; not sure why he is not working on internal infrastructure right now

5/20/13: Admin Update from Audrey: Mailed the Ameren paperwork to Doug.

5/20/13: Email from Doug to Audrey: Received the paperwork for Ameren’s portion of the electrical; found here with these instructions:

Audrey:

Attached are the appropriate documents depicting the cost for the 400 amp service in Maysville. Please have the appropriate individual sign all documents. After the signatures are obtained, please return the originals to me with the advance payment of $7,395.68. Feel free to give me a call with any questions.

Our address is: Ameren Missouri, Attn: Doug Alberti, 2101 N Jesse James Rd, Excelsior Springs MO, 64024

5/17/13: Audrey Emailed Doug: Stated we would like to pursue the 400 amp transformer, requested the cost quoted be re-affirmed and requested an ETIC/next steps (i.e. payment, etc).

5/17/13: Spoke with Doug -- (1) Said if we went requested 800 amp service but did not install infrastructure to support that service, we would be fined per Ameren’s tarriff rules (but could not point me to a source for this policy), (2) Said if we blow the 400 amp transformer, Ameren will upgrade us to 800 amps for free, (3) Said the cost to upgrade to 800 amps is approximately the difference in price betw the 400 amp and 800 amp transformer; there will be little to no cost savings by installing the 800 amp transformer right now; (4) Recommended we install the 400 amp service.

5/17/13: Spoke with Joe -- (1) Informed him we are going with the 400 amp transformer; (2) Requested he proceed with ordering materials and provide us with a start date and timeline; (3) He said he had a cost savings proposal (install wiring for 800 amp now to avoid re-trenching later), I referred him to Marcin for a decision.

5/14/13: Meeting with Joe -- (1) Added 4 outlets in welding bays, (2) Explained requirements in the shop, (3) Addressed structural concerns for mounting breakers, (4) Trenching is measured by the foot (time)--possibly save money by going through the forest from the shop to the Hab Lab; trenching is typically 24-36,” quote does not include filling in the trench, (5) Note: Prior to trenching Marcin needs to show Joe where the water line is to the house, (6) Assess concerns about leveling the ground and laying out the road near the Hab Lab prior to trenching, (7) Converter mounting--near the breaker, motor is mounted into the concrete and breaker mounted to the wall... (8) Split up current electrical outlets to 2 breakers, (9) May want to consider a better way to connect electrical outlets to the 14 gauge wire (using a clip right now), (10) May consider having 800 amp installation at the poll, then install 400 amp in the shop until we are ready to upgrade to 800 amp, (11) Parts will take approx 1 week (estimate) to get in for 800 amp total installation, can install 800 amp service to new shop after construction, (12) Doug Alberti from Ameren stated that his recommendation is that if we install 800 amp service from their end, he believes we would need to install 800 amp service in the shop--but isn’t sure, would have to check, (13) Pay for materials up front, labor after work is done

5/14/13: Other electricians -- (1) Thompson Electric, 218 N Walnut St, Cameron, 816-632-5131; (2) Provin Electric, 211 E 3rd St, Cameron, 816-632-2298; (3) Keystone Construction, 616 W 3rd St, Cameron, St Joseph, 816-294-6217

5/14/13: Telephone call -- quote does not include transfer switch. Joe would like to discuss this and provide an estimate on-site (today, 1pm). The transfer switch is non-traditional because of the solar/battery power structure.

Hi Audrey,

I received this document from Ameren to start on the paperwork for the electricity service for the farm. Could you start on this process for the farm? I know you said that Marcin would prefer to have his name off of the paperwork, so maybe they can accommodate that. The person to talk to would be Doug Alberti and he's available at 816-392-0246. Perhaps you guys could talk?

Let me know - thanks Audrey!

To Audrey forwarded from Elliot, elliotslee@gmail.com, on 5/3/13:

Audrey,

After putting it to paper the estimate is a little higher but this should cover any problems we might run into. I would need to be paid as the work is complete.  thanks for your patience and call anytime, thanks Joe

Marcin,

Here's the update from Ameren. The cost will be:

400 A: $7,395.68

800 A: $9,248.66

This is only from the Ameren side and what they need to do to get the power to the workshop. Joe would move from there. Also, as a new customer, you would need to sign a 1 year contract with Ameren. Please see below for details. Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Thanks!

Elliot;

The cost for Ameren Missouri to provide electricity to the single phase 400 amp meter location is $7,395.68 and the cost to provide service to the 800 amp meter location is $9,248.66. Both scenarios include the cost of changing out the existing pole, installing an overhead transformer of the appropriate size and connecting the customer installed service. These costs do not reflect any costs related to the electric contractor's responsibilities.

Since Mr. Jakubowski has not been an Ameren Missouri  customer, it will be necessary to either collect the construction cost prior to the start of the project or have the construction cost secured by a security bond or a letter of credit. These details can be finalized after the credit application is completed and reviewed by our credit department. We will also require a "Service Extension Guarantee Agreement" completed which is a 12 month contract that will enable your usage to be reviewed for any potential reimbursement of the construction costs.

I will complete all the appropriate paperwork once Mr. Jakubowski determines which direction he plans to pursue. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or call me at 816-392-0246.
