14th June 1933.
Forgive me for the lateness of my reply to your last kind letter,[1] but we have been terribly busy the last fortnight partly with the wedding of our third son Paul, whom you have met.[2] It was a beautiful wedding and I wish you could have been present.
Now I am very busy with the exhibition of my works which is being arranged in aid of the Artists’ General Benevolent Institution.[3] It was so kind of you to offer me your portrait [110993], and until now, I have hoped to include it, but, as it is four years since there has been an exhibition of my works here, so much material has accumulated that I have had to refrain from asking for many pictures that I would have loved to include, and, alas! amongst them is yours. The space is not sufficient this time, but I hope on another occasion you will let me have your picture.
I wish you could come over for the exhibition, as it is so many years since you were here. I myself had hoped to be in Paris by now. I have never been away from it so long, it is more than two years since I was there. I want to see you and my friends, and I shall not fail to come over for a weekend before the Salon[4] is closed, when I shall look forward to seeing you.
I hope you are in the best of health and in your usual charming spirits,
Believe me,
