The inscription on this portrait refers to Paul's first term at Twyford Preparatory School, near Winchester in Hampshire. The four eldest sons of the artist went to Twyford, the youngest, John, attended King's Mead Preparatory School in Sussex. Later that year, the artist painted two double portraits of Paul with his brother Patrick, at Easter [12925] and with Stephen in September [8271].
