JOURNAL 2 JOURNEY STAGE MANAGER

Hi-ARTS and Urban Word are currently accepting applications for a temporary Stage Manager. This temporary part-time position will support Journal 2 Journey students in the performance of their theatrical projects. This is an onsite in-person position taking place primarily at El Barrio's Artspace PS 109 in East Harlem, home of Hi-ARTS.

Developed in 2004 in partnership with Urban Word, Journal 2 Journey (J2J) is a pre-professional creative youth development program that presents poetry in a three-dimensional way by allowing students to re-imagine their poetry as theatrical one-act plays. Learn more about Journal 2 Journey here.

Ideal candidates will have experience in theater and stage management.

Compensation: $2,000 flat rate
Commitment: Approximately 40 hours

Primary Responsibilities:

• Administration

• Reports to Theater Director and Program Coordinator, including all session activities and outstanding program needs

• Location and equipment management

• Open and close rehearsal/production space(s)
• Support in transporting materials between office/rehearsal locations
• Responsible for keeping record of all Hi-ARTS equipment used and storage of said equipment

• Production

• Attend rehearsals to take blocking notes and communicate with lighting and sound technicians
• Collaborate with Program Coordinator to manage attendance
• Operate sound and lights during dress rehearsal and performances
• Support the flow of technical and dress rehearsals, including at least one full run-through
• Collaborate with Theater Director and sound and lighting technicians
• Provide technical support to Theater Director, Program Coordinator, and Hi-ARTS staff
• Supports the Theater Director with upskilling students on appropriate theater conduct
• Prepares and delivers call sheets
• Print and distribute pages as needed
