The Board conducted public hearings for the 2024-25 Legal Maximum Budget and Estimated Tax Rate and the plan to exceed the revenue neutral tax rate.
The Board honored Allison Scheumann, a LIFT para at Leawood Middle School, with the Distinguished Service Award. Scheumann has been in the district for nine years. The Board also honored Courtney Loudon, a fourth grade teacher at Timber Creek Elementary, with the Excellence in Education Award. Loudon has also been in the district for nine years.
The Board honored Adele Van Lieshout, a senior at Blue Valley North, for winning the national championship in Financial Statement Analysis at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference. FBLA, the world’s largest business career and technical student organization, prepares students to become community-minded business leaders.
The Board honored Aashritha Musti and Ipsi Bapat, seniors at Blue Valley West, who won first place in the Emotional Well-Being Challenge at the HOSA Future Health Professionals International Leadership Conference. HOSA is a global student-led organization that empowers future health professionals to become leaders in the global health community.
The Board honored Akshay Nair, a senior at Blue Valley West, who attended the prestigious National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia, where only two students from each state are selected. This program challenges the nation’s rising STEAM leaders by providing opportunities to engage with professionals.
The Board voted to approve a contract with Straub Construction Company, Inc. for the bond purchase related to the construction of a new weight room facility at Blue Valley Northwest.

The Board approved the Legal Maximum Budget and Estimated Tax Rate for the 2024-25 school year. The signature accomplishment of the approved budget is a 7.4% increase in overall staff compensation. The total mill levy was reduced from 53.758 mills to 53.550 mills, continuing the trend of mill levy reductions from prior year.

The Board voted to approve “Wolf Springs Middle School” as the name for Middle School 11. To create a cohesive brand and identity early in the design process, Blue Valley engaged students at Blue Valley Southwest High School and Aubry Bend Middle School to gather suggestions for school names and mascot options. The Board appointed two of its members to the Kansas Association of School Boards’ delegate assembly. Jodie Dietz will serve as the KASB delegate and Jan Kessinger will serve as the alternate delegate. This assembly receives the legislative and nominating committee reports, establishes legislative positions, and elects the KASB president-elect.
