Safe Sleep:

A: your infant should always sleep Alone

B: your infant should always sleep on their Back

C. your infant should always sleep in a Crib

MOTHER 1 (smiling) : “When my doctor handed him to me, his little body fit perfectly in my arms & it literally felt like time stopped

MOTHER 2: Oh my gosh, when I saw my daughter I said, "Wow, she's beautiful.” (pause) (laughing) I may have even cried a little.

MOTHER 3 :

“I just kept thinking how amazing it was that she was here in the world. She was just so beautiful and her eyes were so bright, I was so in love”

MOTHER 1:  The day I brought him home was the best day of my life.

MOTHER2: She was so quiet, she always slept like an angel.

MOTHER 3: I think I only slept 3 hours the first week she was home. (pause)It was the best week of my life. (smile)

MOTHER 2: She probably slept in my bed more than my husband or I did (laughter)...she was just so tiny and beautiful that I couldn’t leave her out of my sight.

MOTHER 1:It was really bright during the summer where I lived, so one night I put him to sleep on his stomach (pause) I thought it would help him sleep better.

MOTHER 3:  I still remember that afternoon… she was a little cranky so I put her to sleep on the couch.

MOTHER 2: Then one morning, I woke up in my bed. But she didn’t.

MOTHER 3: It was only 10 minutes, I only left him on the couch for 10! minutes… but when I came to pick him up I knew something was wrong.

MOTHER 1: I rolled him over the next morning to give him a kiss (pause) he wasn’t breathing… He wasn’t breathing

MOTHER 3: She wasn’t breathing.

MOTHER 2: I started panicking, I could barely dial 911.

MOTHER 3: By the time the ambulance arrived, it was too late.

MOTHER 1: The doctors let me hold him one more time (pause) He looked so peaceful.

MOTHER 2: She still had this smile on her face, she looked so happy

MOTHER 3: The doctors pronounced her dead at 2:32 p.m.

NARRATOR: Sleep related infant death is a leading cause of infant mortality. Every year, we lose the equivalent of one kindergarten class from sleep related infant deaths.

NARRATOR: Luckily, there are 3 steps you can take to help prevent Sudden Infant Death

A: Always make sure your child is sleeping Alone

B. Make sure your infant is sleeping on their Back.

C. Never let your infant sleep anywhere except for their Crib.

MOTHER 2: I just want to go back and shout at myself, beg myself to just let her sleep on her own.

MOTHER 1: It’s so simple, if I had known… I(pause) I never would have let him sleep on his back. (pause)But he just looked so comfortable

MOTHER 3: I would do anything go back and hold my baby one more time.

Narrator: Life doesn’t have a rewind button. Take the time to remember the ABCs of safe sleep, and keep your infant safe and happy.
