17th May, 1930.

Your excellency,

I have arrived in Paris a few days ago and was very pleased to receive your very kind letter conveying to me the appreciative thanks of the President of the United States[1] for the photograph which I had the pleasure to send him of my portrait of Marshal Lyautey. I highly esteem the President’s acknowledgement, knowing how busy he must be, and I should be grateful if you would kindly convey at your convenience my deepfelt thanks to him.

I am looking forward to paint the President in the Fall.

I wish to thank you also for your letter containing the delightful message.

Believe me,

Your Excellency,

Yours sincerely,

His Excellency

The American Ambassador,

Embassy of the United States of America,

PARIS.
