Justice for MPHS Email Template
Hello, I’m the person who wrote the emails to CMS.
This is meant to be a template/inspiration for emails that you can send to your school officials. While it is highly encouraged that you write your own emails to the CMS board, please copy and paste this template and send it if you wish. The following changes are that which we see to happen. We will have succeeded when all four of these policies are implemented, and these actions are taken.
While point number 3 has been somewhat promised by MPHS, this must occur across the district. MPHS has also pledged to promote student-led initiatives and movements to “raise school awareness around the issue of healthy relationships.” While this might seem like an acceptable solution, it is not; it is the school’s responsibility to educate us, not for us to educate each other; it is the school’s responsibility to keep us safe.
Lastly, the school board is discussing this. However, they will ignore any anonymous email or message. Keep this in mind when you send any emails.

Dear [Board Members],
We want change to come to CMS. The Jill Roe petition has garnered tens of thousands of signatures in support, and a protest has formed to emphasize the demand for such change. Myers Park High School and CMS need to be reformed to foster a genuinely safe environment where everyone can feel safe and protected.
We ask for four changes to be implemented.
We ask for an apology from CMS to its past and present student body, as well as a promise that CMS will work to ensure the safety of its students in the future.
We ask that a full investigation be conducted into Principal Mark Bosco regarding his ability to keep students safe. Principal Mark Bosco has proved himself unable to maintain a safe school environment, as demonstrated by his sheer apathy to cases of sexual violence. He is someone who must be investigated.
We ask for the creation of a district-wide mandatory reporting system for cases of sexual violence, as well as the expansion of counseling services, training for staff and students on how to report sexual violence properly, and written records of any reports. We understand that Myers Park High School has stated they would implement a training system, but this needs to be implemented across the entire jurisdiction of CMS. Justice can only indeed be reached when the institutions work to protect their students.
Lastly, we ask for the mandatory CMS sexual education curriculum to be expanded to include education and instruction on sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and the importance and rules of informed consent. The school environment can only be safe when this knowledge is commonplace. We know that MPHS has suggested promoting student movements to educate the community on these topics. While student input in this regard ought to be encouraged, this cannot be the final action to address sexual violence in our community. It is the school’s job to keep CMS students safe, so it is the school’s job to educate students in this regard.
CMS must take further action than what it has currently to protect its students, specifically to put in place these preventative measures. The four demands listed above are all demands that will assist in addressing this epidemic of sexual violence and creating a safer school environment.
