Position:        BASE (Before and After School Education) Director  (Part Time)        

Reports to:        Elementary School Principal

SkyView Academy offers a research-based, content-rich liberal arts program with a commitment to foreign language studies and community service. Staff, parents and students are actively involved in a culture of expectation and support where individuals are respected, valued and known by the content of their character.

Overview:

The BASE Director will support SkyView’s school program by maintaining a high quality program designed to foster student success and growth in all areas. The BASE Director will be responsible for the adoption of the school mission and vision as evidenced through thoughtful planning aligned with the school’s curriculum components (i.e. Core Knowledge)  and enrichment needs. In addition, the BASE Director will show a commitment to furthering their own professional development and building relationships with families.

Responsibilities:

          Management and direction of child care program

           Hiring and Supervising the child care program staff

          Exhibit excellent communication with parents, students, school staff, and coworkers

          Follow SVA policies and goals and use SVA facilities with care

          Follow and enforce Rules regulating School-Age Child Care Centers

  • Keep all data and records updated in compliance with School Age Child Care Center Regulations

          Manage program operations, planning, equipment, supplies, and safety

          Manage financial records in accordance with school procedure

          Collaborate with grade level teams to align enrichment with general education content

  • Implement a dynamic and creative approach to out of school time
  • Promote students’ creative, social and academic development by making provision for adequate homework time, physical activity and creative outlets

          Communicate proactively with other staff, students, and parents

          Participate in school-wide professional development as well as continuing education

          Supervise students and provide discipline according to established guidelines

          Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 1. To qualify for the position, the BASE Director must have completed at least one of the following:
  • a. A four-year college degree with such majors as recreation, art, elementary or early childhood, or the human services field.
  • b. Two (2) years of college training and 6 months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care and supervision of 4 or more unrelated school age children.
  • c. Three (3) years (5,460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or part-time paid experience with four or more unrelated school age children since age of 18.
  • Within the first nine months the BASE Director must complete 6 semester hours, 9 quarter hours, or 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school age children. The individual is subject to termination if he or she does not complete this state-licensing requirement.  
  • 2. The BASE Director shall be present at the program at least 70% of the hours the Program is in operation.
  • 3. Continuing Education:  Each year, June 1 through May 31, the BASE Director must complete at least 15 clock-hours of training.
  • 4. BASE Director must demonstrate:
  • a.   Ability to work with school age children.
  • b.  Thorough and current knowledge of all aspects of childcare
  • c.   Strong leadership and management skill
  • d.  Excellent ability in problem solving and decision-making
  • e.  Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • f.   Proficiency in the use of technology
