Last Day to Join SGE: Sigma Gamma Epsilon (SGE) is the national honor society for geoscience students. WSU's chapter is completing its spring membership drive and interested students should contact Dr. Rick Ford (Faculty Advisor) by today. In order to join SGE, students need a 2.67 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in their geoscience courses, with a minimum of 10 credit hours. The group participates in exciting projects and activities and welcomes your participation.

Applications for Geoscience Scholarships Now Being Accepted: All Geoscience majors are eligible to apply for our departmental-level scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year. Please note that there are two applications you may wish to fill out. A general application for departmental scholarships, & a separate application for the Tanner Scholarship in Geosciences. Full scholarship information and applications can be found on this page. The deadline is Monday, Feb 29th. Both applications are attached.

Field Research Opportunity: Dr. Jeff Eaton (retired professor of WSU) will is working on understanding the depositional history of the Claron Formation in Bryce National Park. He currently has one student field researcher, Raquel Robello, who will be working on the petrology and a paleocurrent analysis of sandstones in the Claron. She is in need of a research assistant this summer (approximate dates are June 27-July 8) Food and transportation are provided, and lodging (camping) can be accommodated. If you are interested in contributing to this field-based geologic research, please contact Raquel Robello: raquelrobello@mail.weber.edu

Darwin's Birthday Party Today: The Zoology Club is holding its annual Darwin Day Birthday Party to honor Mr. Charles Darwin and his contributions to science, including geology! Come take your picture with Mr. Darwin! Today, February 12, in the Shepherd Union Atrium from 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Please see the attached flyer for full information.

2016 Darcy Lecture: Dr. Ty Ferre, University of Arizona, will be presenting, "Seeing Things Differently: Rethinking the Relationship Between Data, Models, and Decision-Making," on Monday February 22 at 9:00am at USGS-Utah Water Science Center in West Valley. UGIC Scholarships to Bryce Canyon: The Utah Geographic Information Council (UGIC) Board is pleased to announce the availability of two (2) undergraduate student scholarships for their 2016 Annual Conference in Bryce Canyon, UT May 9-13. This is a great opportunity for students to engage with the GIS professional community and gain valuable GIS knowledge. Attached is the official scholarship announcement with application details.

Science Fair Volunteers Needed: Please see the attached flyer for the many schools in need of Science Fair Judges & Helpers. The dates range between February 17 and the 24 and any amount of time that you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.

AGI's Glossary of Geology now available for Android: The American Geosciences Institute is pleased to announce the release of its Glossary of Geology app for the Android platform.  To celebrate the release of the Android version, the app has been discounted $10.00 until March 31 at which time it will be $19.99. Please see the attachment for more information.

Save The Date - AWG Benefit: The Association of Women Geologists-Salt Lake Chapter will be holding their 27th annual silent auction and wine-tasting scholarship benefit on Saturday, March 26, 7:30pm-10pm. This is a fun event that raises funds for the several scholarships. Please see the attached flyer for full information.
