Grade 2
Thank you for completing the Weekly Words homework that all the grade two classes have been doing. For the rest of the year we are going to give you some more options for your weekly homework task. Here are some ideas for the rest of the year:
Dreambox - login to your dreambox math account and work on your numeration skills.
Mathletics - login to mathletics from the student portal and work on your math skills.
Raz-kids - login to your raz-kids account and work on your reading and understanding.
Kidblog - login to your blog and write (remember to reread your work and check for spelling and punctuation)!
a procedural: how to clean your room, how to make cookies, how to make your mom happy, how to wash
a car, how to ride a bike, how to build a sandcastle, how to shop for groceries, how to set the table...what can you think of?
a narrative: make up a story about the adventures of your favourite stuffie, the adventures of Raphael
from TMNT, the emergency rescue that Paw Patrol did, the activities that are going on at the
North Pole right now...the ideas are limitless...just remember that each story needs a problem at
the beginning, events in the middle, and a solution at the end. You can even try to include an
author’s message, since you are the author!
a recount: What did you do this weekend? What did you do last night? What did you do at the birthday
party?
read other students’ posts and write and write a comment by making a connection, asking a question,
saying something you like, agreeing or disagreeing politely, justifying your opinion, or piggybacking
onto someone’s idea. Remember to reread your comment to make sure you have the correct
spelling and punctuation.
Board and Card Games - practise working on your character development. Can you lose or win gracefully?
Does the game need dice? You can work on your adding facts up to 6...and doubles facts too! In Chutes
and Ladders or Candyland, you can see how many MORE spots you need to move to catch up or how
many LESS spots someone is behind you. Battleship will help you line up coordinates for graphing. How
is your memory when playing Memory? What strategies can you use? Whose card is worth more?
Go Outside - practise skipping so you are ready for Jump Rope for Heart. Practise your monkey bar skills (this is
a great gross and fine motor activity). Take a look at what is around you and see if you can make
connections to science and religion lessons.
