Capture the Dino
Synopsis:
The Kansas/Nebraska Act was an act that allowed the Kansas and Nebraska territories to choose whether or not they wanted slavery. This caused a tidal wave of people from both the North and the South to go there to try to claim it, which led to bleeding Kansas and eventually the Civil War?
Please Read the Rules
- Divide the class into East and West. One half will represent the North, and the other will represent the South. The North will have yellow flags, and the South will have red.
- NORMAL CAPTURE THE DINO RULES APPLY
- For the first round, the South will have 5 more people, because they flooded into the territory to win the vote.
- The dinos represent the land that both sides were trying to own so that the territory could be either pro- or anti- slavery, depending on the side that had more people to vote.
- The John Brown Raid was a raid on the South by John Brown. To represent this, one person labeled John Brown at the beginning will have a free pass to go get a dino without being sent to jail.
- Because of the advantages, the South will have the advantage the first game.
- For the second game, the sides will have even numbers, and the North will be equipped with dodgeballs, because they had better ammunition than the South.
- The dodgeballs can be thrown at people as they are running to put the dino down on their side. If they are hit, they must bring the dino back and then go to jail.
- The North will have the advantage the second game, which results in the North winning.
- Then we will come back an answer the question on a piece of paper
