The reader of the week is Rylee Karn.  Rylee is a 2nd grader from Mrs. VanHandel's classroom. Rylee is a great listener during reading lessons.  She is always one of the first students to settle in and start reading once she is dismissed from the mini-lesson to independent reading time.  Rylee reads a variety of books, takes time to word solve, takes notes to help her comprehend, and loves to discuss her books with her classmates and adults.  She is a positive reading partner and club member because she has enthusiasm and works to do her best every day! Great work Kylee! Please stop down to Mrs. Meyer's classroom to collect your books and have your photo taken.

The Littles vs. the Bigs is Back!!!!  The Elem school vs. the MS/HS - which building will collect the most food and/or money???

Last year CHS sponsored this food drive challenge -

There are several districts participating -  New London, Weyauwega-Fremont, Clintonville, Hortonville, Freedom, Seymour, and Winneconne.  Last year WCSD won the challenge.  We received $500 and all the food collected went to the local food pantries - WAAC and Ruth's Pantry in Winchester.

This year WHEN we win the $500 grant will go to Project Backpack.

Not only is this a competition between the school districts, but it is also a competition between our elem and our MS and HS combined.

Last year the elem (aka littles) knocked it out of the park!

Elem donations can be given to the classroom teacher who can then bring the goods to Mrs. Larson's office.

We will weigh each building's donations after the competition is completed.

The reader of the week is Boon Hiroskey.  Boone is a 4K student in Mrs. Tesch's classroom.  Boone is an avid reader who enjoys reading books at school and at home.  He is a great storyteller.  Boone uses his storytelling voice to read the pictures, connect one page to the next, and use different voices for different characters.  When talking about books, Boone looks closely at the pictures and describes who the characters are, where they are, and what they are doing.  His excitement for reading is contagious and motivates other learners to pick up a book.  Keep reading Boone! Please stop at Mrs. Meyer's classroom to collect your books and have your picture taken.

This week's reader of the week is Emery Meyer. Emery is a 3rd grader from Mrs. Salzsieder's classroom. Emery has shown high effort in her reading. Her independent stamina has increased. She listens and participates well in lessons. And most importantly, Emery applies what she has learned in her Write About Reading Binder! Great work Emery!  Please stop at Mrs. Meyer's classroom to choose your books and have your photo taken.

For Red Ribbon Week today we are remembering to “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, SAY NO TO DRUGS.”  Don’t let drugs or poor choices stand in your way of reaching your dreams.  Continue to dream of all the possibilities you can and will achieve as you get older.  Thank you for participating in Red Ribbon this week.  Remember to continue to make healthy choices each and every day.  It is also important to remember to let your teachers, counselors, and/or parents know if you or another student is using illegal drugs, because we want to help each person at Winneconne Elementary School make healthy choices and be drug free.

Today we will be having a send off for both the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams who will be headed to the State Cross Country meet in Wisconsin Rapids. At 11:20 the Cross Country teams will start in the MS at 11:20 am, they will walk the MS hallways and then head to the HS.  HS Classes will be dismissed to the HS gym at 11:20. The teams will walk through the HS Gym, through the commons and then out to their Charter bus and get a police/fire truck escort over to the Elementary School where they will make a trip through the ES building and then back to the bus out of town.

Great job on showing the Winneconne Way during our October school-wide challenge.  The number of tickets that our entire school earned this past month was….447 tickets.  Keep up the great work.  Our staff was working on preparing an awesome surprise for all of our students to enjoy at the character celebration this week, unfortunately some tricky ghost has taken and run away with your Halloween treats. That means in order for you to enjoy your treats you will have to help us find them. You might have to look low, then high, look left, look right when you participate in our character celebration scavenger hunt on today!  Happy Hunting!!!!
