Dear Sir,

In the early days of this month, I had the pleasure of consulting you about the whether you might be willing – and on what terms – to paint a portrait of Elisabeth, late Queen of Hungary,^[1] for the Nemzeti Casino,^[2] and I promised at the time to inform you in Rome^[3] of any further developments on this matter. –

As I have already mentioned, the Nemzeti Casino is currently undergoing a leadership crisis and for this reason, the matter of the portrait in question will only be able to be settled when the leadership crisis is satisfactorily resolved, which we hoped would happen at the general meeting on the 4th of February. The meeting, however, did not bring about the desired solution, in consequence of which a further extraordinary meeting has been tabled for the 4th of March this year, and perhaps then consensus will be reached on the matter of a chairman and president. If so, the Club will then be in a position to make a final decision about the portrait

of the Queen, – until that time, however, we must content ourselves to wait. –

Since you are planning to be in Budapest in the first half of March, I will have the pleasure of communicating any further developments to you here in Budapest. –

Igen tisztelt Uram!

A f. hó első napjaiban volt szerencsém kegyedet a végből felkeresni, hogy esetleg hajlandó volna-e és minő feltételek mellett a Nemzeti Casino részére, dicsőült Erzsébet magyar királyné arcképét megfesteni, s ez alkalommal megígértem, hogy ez ügyben a további fejleményekről Rómába értesíteni fogom. –

Miként már előszóval is jeleztem, a Nemzeti Casino ez időszerint igazgatóválság előtt áll, s ez okból a kérdéses festmény ügyében is csak akkor fog végleges intézkedés tétethetni, ha az igazgató válság szerencsés megoldást nyer, amit a febr. 4-ére kitűzött közgyűléstől vártunk. Ezen közgyűlés azonban nem hozta meg a várt megoldást, ennek folytán f. é. márczius 4-ére újabb rendkívüli közgyűlés hivatott össze, talán ez alkalommal az elnök-igazgató személyére nézve megegyezés jöhet létre; ez esetben azon helyzetben lesz a Casino, hogy a Királyné arcképének

megfestése ügyét véglegesen rendezheti, – mind ez ideig azonban várakozó állapotra kell helyezkednünk. –

Miután márczius hó első felében Kegyed már úgyis Bpesten lesz, a további fejleményekről majd itt Bpesten lesz szerencsém értesíteni.–
