Dear Mr de László –

I am writing to wish you and Mrs de László every good wish on the New Year, and all the luck that you can possibly think of.

We have only now returned to town my husband[1] has been very ill and depressed all through the holidays, but has at last seen a doctor, who says he is suffering from acute neurasthenia – (which I believe means his nerves are all wrong – though I don’t quite understand). At any rate, we are leaving town quite

shortly for Jersey, and there we shall lead a very “simple life” indeed, and if that does not cure him – I am afraid there is nothing else to try.

Please forgive me for writing all these details, but you were kind enough to say you would like to hear.
