In the book Smile, Illustrator Stephanie Yue uses big different shapes as drawing boxes and she also uses facial expressions to show the emotions, and the situations.

For the illustrator to show the situation is scary, Stephanie Yue uses big facial expressions and different shaped boxes to impact the reader. Yue in page 66 and 67, picture 2 and 7 shows the body language, facial expression, spikes on the drawing boxes and noise like “Boom, shake, Rattle”. With how the illustrator draws the situation it shows Raina and her family could be in a scary situation like an earthquake. The illustrator also draw Raina and her family in shock after the big earthquake. In the images Raina eyes looked shocked and her body looked like it jumped up. The spikes on the drawing boxes made it look like the room was moving.
