Metro Leo Banquet - Friday, July 26
The Metro Leo Club will hold the end of the year banquet on Friday, July 26th. We will celebrate our outgoing 2023-24 and incoming 2024-2025 board members with a pot luck dinner. We will have new member pins and certificates available so if you have any new friends that would like to join for the 2024-25 year, please have them download a membership application and get it in asap. We are currently filling positions for the new board, so if you are interested in a board member position, please email metroleosofms@gmail.com.
The banquet will be held at St. Columb’s Church located at 550 Sunnybrook Rd in Ridgeland, MS. Your parents and friends are invited. We would also love to see our old Leo friends - so if you are in town, please make plans to come and let us know how you are doing! Everyone, please sign up with this sign-up genius and while it is not required to attend, consider bringing something for the pot-luck to share.
Trash Bash ‘24
The Metro Leo Club and the Lions Club of Madison will pick up Trash at the City of Madison’s Trash Bash ‘24 event on Saturday, July 20th from 8:00 to 11:00 am. Keep Madison Beautiful is sponsoring this event and we need a good group to show our support of our community. We will meet at Strawberry Patch Park to clean up there then may move to another assigned area. If you have a Lion or Leo T-shirt, please wear it to this event. If you have not already joined the Metro Leo GroupMe, please do so. We will keep current information there. You can join the GroupMe by clicking this link - GroupMe. |
Dinkin’ for Diabetes
Shelia Spann is a member of the Lions Club of Madison and is holding a Pickleball mixer on Saturday, July 27th in order to raise funds for Diabetes Solutions and Wellness Center. It will be a fun event and even will feature some celebrity teams from local news stations. The Metro Leo Club will help with the concession stand. Our banquet will be held on Friday, July 26 but if you are available to help with set-up for the concession stand before that, please let us know by email or the GroupMe. It would be fun for the Metro Leo Club to have a team for the event. If you are interested, please let us know. You are welcome and encouraged to form your own team if interested. Proceeds are used to provide information to the community about diabetes care. For those who may not be aware - a dink is a shot in pickleball where you make your opponent’s next shot unattackable. |
Keep the Rez Beautiful hosted Mississippi Great American Cleanup on May 3rd
Keep the Rez Beautiful held the kick off event for Mississippi’s Great American Clean-up on Friday, May 3rd from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. Lots of volunteers gathered at the Bobby Cleveland Park at Lakeshore for a rally then were dismissed to sites around the reservoir to plant trees, clean up planting beds, plant flowers, pick up limbs or trash. Photos from the event can be viewed at this link. While our Leos could not attend due to being in school, Metro Leo Advisor Dee Collins was able to represent our group by making name tags and taking photos at the event.
Leos enjoyed Lions Club of Madison Installation Banquet
Thank you to the Lions Club of Madison for inviting the Metro Leo Club to the Lions Club Installation Banquet. The students really enjoyed the hospitality and food. It was a great opportunity for them to meet and talk to Lions Club of Madison members and find out more about the club that sponsors them.
The Metro Leos helped host KRB’s May Day on the Rez
Thank you to everyone who came out to help at Keep the Rez Beautiful’s May Day on the Rez. The families and children who came out to enjoy all the different stations talked about how much they liked the event. There were lots of educational stations such as a geology and wildlife station hosted by MDEQ, leaf rubbing station, rock painting station and thumbprint art. Kids were able to search through rocks for some that contained fossils and Pearl Riverkeepers talked about keeping rivers clean. To view more photos from the event, you can click this link.
