Join Us to Show How the Arts Improve Oklahoma

Arts supporters from across the state are invited to join together at the State Capitol on April 12, 2017 to deliver a unified message to our Oklahoma legislators:

The arts and culture industry develops communities, improves education, and grows the economy.

Events take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m on the 2nd Floor of the State Capitol. Come for part or participate in the whole day!

8:30 am: Sign in & Coffee, 2nd Floor Rotunda

9:00-10:15 am: Advocacy Training

Blue Room: Orientation for Beginning Advocates

Learn the nuts and bolts of talking with your elected officials and the current state of the state facilitated by Andy Moore from Let’s Fix This and get briefed on our arts advocacy agenda by Julia Kirt from Oklahomans for the Arts.

2nd Floor Rotunda: Advanced Advocates Briefing

Get in-depth briefings on our arts advocacy agenda and the current state of arts-related budgets, policies and legislation facilitated by Julia Kirt from Oklahomans for the Arts.

10:30-11:30 am: Kickoff Rally: For Everyone! Blue Room, 2nd Floor 

• Featuring talks by advocates and legislative champions  
• Rose State Chamber Singers, Midwest City

Join with your fellow art fans. Are you coming with a group from your community? You’re welcome to bring an identifying banner or sign or wear something unique to show your unified voice for the arts.

We will take photos afterwards with all gathered.

11:30 am–1:30 pm: Visit Your Legislators 

Make an appointment in advance and invite your Legislator to eat a quick lunch with you. Set meetings or lunch for any time that works for for your legislators between 11:30 and 1:30.

Reach out now to set an appointment in their offices. Legislators frequently have tight schedules and committee meetings. You can drop in as well, but we’d love them to know you’re coming. Sometimes we have to be flexible to be sure we get a few minutes in person, but it’s worth it!

11:30 am-1:00 pm: Lunch 2nd Floor Rotunda

• Invite your Legislators to grab lunch with you and others from your area. Be sure to look up your legislators ahead of time.
• Seating will be available. Sit near your regional allies. Pre-order lunch here.

• “Veterans: Experience & Expression” Governors Gallery 2nd Floor North and Oklahoma State Art Collection in the Betty Price Gallery 1st Floor, organized by Oklahoma Arts Council. Featuring artwork created by military veterans who recently participated in the Oklahoma Arts Council’s pilot program at the Norman Veterans Center as part of the Oklahoma Arts and the Military Initiative. Through the initiative, the Oklahoma Arts Council serves active duty personnel, veterans, guardsmen and reservists, military family members, caregivers, and others.

• Register to vote or update your registration- Election Board, Basement
